This full-time Barista role plays a vital part in customer service within City of Hope’s hospitality operations. The Barista is responsible for crafting a variety of quality beverages, including coffee, espresso, cappuccino, café latte, tea, chai, and fruit blend drinks, all tailored to customer preferences. Additionally, the Barista may sell food items and handle cash registers and electronic payment systems. The position requires excellent interpersonal skills since the Barista will interact directly with customers to take orders, answer questions, and resolve complaints promptly, all while ensuring speedy delivery and maintaining positive customer relations.

The Barista’s duties also include maintaining a clean and attractive coffee bar or cart area by arranging supplies and cups and cleaning equipment such as coffee machines. Adhering to health and safety regulations is crucial in this role, including participation in allergy and foodborne illness training, regular safety meetings, and compliance with risk management policies. The position operates under the guidelines of City of Hope’s workplace Code of Conduct and Compliance Plan, emphasizing safety, environmental, infection control, and overall workplace standards.

Ideal candidates will be available for evening shifts from 12:30 pm to 9:00 pm and must be prepared to handle multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Job Requirements

  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent experience
  • Ability to obtain Starbucks Barista Certification within 30 days of employment if hired as Starbucks Barista
  • Availability to work evening shifts from 12:30 pm to 9:00 pm
  • Good customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to handle cash register and electronic payment systems
  • Ability to maintain cleanliness and sanitation in work area
  • Willingness to participate in safety and allergy training
  • Ability to lift and move inventory or supplies as needed

Job Qualifications

  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent experience
  • Starbucks Baristas required to obtain Starbucks Barista Certification within 30 days of employment
  • Preferably some prior food service or Barista experience

Job Duties

  • Greets customers, take orders, mix and serve hot and cold beverages such as coffee, espresso, cappuccino, café latte, tea, chai, fruit blend drinks, considering customer specifications
  • May sell food items
  • Maintains good customer relations and speedy delivery of all beverages and food items
  • Arranges coffee bar/cart supplies and cups/mugs to make attractive displays and maintains bar/cart area neat and sanitary
  • Cleans coffee machines, restaurant areas and preparation areas regularly
  • Records all sales, collects money, operates cash register and follows cash-handling procedures including operation of cash/credit card/electronic payment registers
  • Attends allergy and foodborne illness in-service training and participates in safety meetings and training
  • Receives inventory and moves/lifts foodstuffs and supplies as needed
  • Complies with all company safety and risk management policies and reports accidents and injuries timely
  • Follows City of Hope policies, procedures, performance improvement, safety, and infection control guidelines including workplace Code of Conduct and Compliance Plan
