We are currently hiring for full-time and part-time Barista positions within the campus food service team. The Barista positions offer flexible schedules Monday through Friday with potential weekend shifts, which will be detailed further during the interview process. As a Barista at Purdue University Fort Wayne, you will be an essential part of the campus hospitality team, making and serving coffee, espresso drinks, and other related food and beverage items in compliance with health and safety standards such as the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP). You will interact directly with customers, providing friendly and courteous service that helps create a welcoming atmosphere in the university’s dining locations.

This role requires attention to detail in following approved recipes and portion controls to ensure consistent quality. Additionally, maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of all equipment and service areas aligns with the university's dedication to quality food-service operations. The Barista is responsible for accurately entering orders, handling cash and payment methods, replenishing condiments and supplies, and ensuring the presentation of all food and beverage items is attractive and up to standards.

Job Duties

  • Prepares espresso orders for customers and catering using standard measures and recipes
  • enters orders accurately into POS device
  • accepts cash and charge payments
  • replenishes condiments, beverages and general supplies while maintaining cleanliness of service area
  • ensures proper presentation, portion control and maintenance of proper serving temperatures
  • follows HACCP standards
  • maintains sanitation and orderliness of all equipment, supplies and utensils
  • ensures proper food preparation by using approved recipes and following prescribed production standards
  • keeps display equipment clean and free of debris during meal service
  • cleans equipment and workstation thoroughly before leaving the area
  • greets customers courteously and interacts in a manner to ensure customer satisfaction
  • relays relevant concerns from customers to supervisors
  • serves customers quickly and efficiently, preventing delays in serving lines
  • demonstrates a complete understanding of daily menu items and accurately explains them to customers
  • advocates selling techniques by establishing good communication and assisting in the buying decision-making process
  • ensures all display foods are merchandised attractively per standards
  • serves food neatly and attractively per standard
  • performs other duties as assigned
