Job Description

Bon Appetit Management Company is a leading foodservice provider operating over 1,000 cafes nationwide. The company serves diverse clients including corporations, universities, and museums, along with several public restaurants. Bon Appetit is renowned for its commitment to socially responsible and sustainable food sourcing, incorporating practices such as sustainable seafood procurement and the exclusive use of cage-free eggs. The company prides itself on cooking everything from scratch, using fresh, locally sourced ingredients, which aligns with its mission to deliver high-quality, environmentally conscious dining experiences.

This opportunity is for Barista positions located at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. Both full-time and part-time roles are available, with schedules that vary and require open availability. The position offers a competitive fixed pay rate of $21.00 per hour and includes perks such as a cell phone stipend and gas stipend. Candidates with previous barista experience are preferred but not mandatory, making this role accessible for both seasoned baristas and those looking to start a career in coffee service.

The Barista role involves preparing and serving coffee, espresso drinks, and related food and beverage items while adhering to HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) guidelines to ensure quality and safety in food handling. Punctual and friendly service is paramount, as this position requires direct interaction with customers and team members alike to create a welcoming environment and ensure customer satisfaction. Baristas will engage in order accuracy, manage cash and charge transactions via POS devices, and maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of their workstations and equipment.

In this role, employees will also be expected to restock supplies and condiments, monitor proper presentation and portion control, and uphold safe food temperatures following prescribed production standards. The job demands attention to sanitation by cleaning equipment thoroughly before shift changes and keeping display equipment and service areas free from debris. Baristas serve as customer advocates, explaining menu items knowledgeably, assisting with purchasing decisions, and presenting food attractively according to company standards.

Bon Appetit offers a comprehensive benefits package designed to support the well-being and development of its associates. Full-time and part-time employees enjoy benefits such as retirement plans, associate shopping programs, health and wellness programs, identity theft protection, pet insurance, and voluntary benefits that include critical illness, accident, and hospital indemnity insurance, as well as legal services and auto and home insurance options. Full-time team members receive additional benefits including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, commuter benefits, employee assistance services, and flexible spending accounts. Paid time off policies comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws.

Compass Group, the parent company of Bon Appetit Management Company, is an equal opportunity employer dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The company strives to provide fair employment practices and reasonable accommodations where necessary, ensuring equality regardless of race, national origin, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability, or veteran status. Bon Appetit also maintains a drug-free workplace and practices inclusive hiring, considering applicants with criminal histories consistent with applicable laws and regulations.

This role is ideal for individuals interested in joining a company with strong environmental and social values, competitive pay, and a supportive work culture. Applicants should be prepared for flexible working hours and possess a customer-focused attitude to contribute positively to the Pepperdine University community. The job offers great opportunities for growth, learning, and contributing to sustainable foodservice practices.
