Job Description
Dark Matter Coffee (DMC) is a distinctive specialty coffee company known for its commitment to quality, innovation, and community engagement. Founded with a passion for delivering exceptional coffee experiences, DMC has grown into a well-respected retailer with multiple stores dedicated to serving high-quality coffee while maintaining strong core values. The company prides itself on creating an inclusive and dynamic work environment that values teamwork, training, and professional development. DMC's mission is not just about selling coffee; it’s about building a culture centered around superior customer service, technical expertise, and employee growth. The company continually invests in its staff by offering thorough training programs and comprehensive benefits to support their career and personal wellbeing.
The Barista role at Dark Matter Coffee is an hourly, tip-eligible position ideal for professionals passionate about coffee culture and customer experience. Starting pay is $16.00 per hour for tipped shifts and $16.60 per hour for untipped training shifts. This job involves active retail store operation and maintenance, requiring the Barista to adhere strictly to DMC’s core values while engaging customers effectively. The position demands full participation in ongoing development and training programs led by Store Managers (SM) and Assistant Managers (AM), ensuring that individuals continually enhance their skills and knowledge.
In addition to hands-on responsibilities, Baristas must be prepared for some physical demands, including occasional heavy lifting of up to 60 pounds. After 90 days of employment, Baristas become eligible for a robust benefits package that includes comprehensive health insurance options such as medical, dental, vision, accident coverage, critical illness, short-term and long-term disability, and voluntary life insurance. The company also offers 401(k) retirement plans and provides financial planning support for all employees, promoting long-term financial health and security.
This role is perfect for detail-oriented individuals who thrive in a fast-paced environment and enjoy interacting with customers and coworkers. The Barista serves as an ambassador of the DMC brand, providing expert coffee preparation and maintaining a clean, welcoming atmosphere in the store. Responsibilities include learning and mastering DMC’s espresso bar and brewing techniques, handling POS and cash accurately, and protecting company assets and equipment. Baristas are also expected to actively participate in quality control feedback and training assessments to ensure continuous improvement.
By joining Dark Matter Coffee as a Barista, employees become part of a vibrant team dedicated to elevating coffee standards and customer satisfaction. The company fosters a collaborative work culture where communication with managers and peers is valued and encouraged. Baristas assist new staff through mentorship in training programs, contributing to collective success. The role offers a meaningful career pathway with clear advancement opportunities and comprehensive support to build essential skills within the specialty coffee industry.
