The Barista / Counter Server role at Do-Rite Donuts & Chicken is an essential position that blends customer service excellence with the art of food and beverage preparation. This role involves professionally taking and confirming food and beverage orders from guests, ensuring accuracy and attention to special instructions or restrictions, and preparing a variety of coffee and espresso beverages to serve both indoor and outdoor guests. Individuals in this position must efficiently process payments, manage sales receipts, and maintain compliance with the restaurant’s policies. Additionally, they are responsible for assembling and delivering food and beverage orders promptly while providing exceptional service that exceeds guest expectations.

The position demands multitasking abilities in a vibrant, fast-paced environment, including handling orders for drive-thru customers where applicable. Teamwork, communication skills, and a calm demeanor during busy periods are highly valued traits. Moreover, the role requires physical stamina, including the ability to stand for an entire shift, lift varying weights safely, and operate kitchen equipment such as coffee makers, grinders, and espresso machines. The Barista / Counter Server must also ensure adherence to safety, sanitation, and food allergy protocols, fostering a safe and enjoyable dining experience.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in a food service or retail environment preferred
  • Ability to stand and walk for an entire shift
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Availability to work flexible hours including weekends
  • Ability to safely operate coffee makers, grinders, and espresso machines

Job Qualifications

  • Customer service experience
  • Knowledge of coffee and espresso preparation preferred
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Effective communication skills
  • Basic math and cash handling skills
  • Familiarity with POS systems
  • Ability to work varied shifts including weekends

Job Duties

  • Ensure the overall guest experience exceeds expectations and anticipate guests’ needs
  • Greet guests with a warm, sincere smile
  • Use tact and good judgement when dealing with guest challenges and respond to guest needs with patience and courtesy
  • Understand and respond knowledgeably to questions about the restaurant and menu
  • Use sales techniques to present and encourage current promotions to guests
  • Follow all steps of service
  • Understand and follow the food allergy procedure and special orders/restrictions
  • Proficiency in the use and operation of all necessary tools and equipment, including the POS system, Frequent Diner, Gift Card and Credit Card terminals
  • Comply with all safety and sanitation guidelines and procedures
  • Follow all rules, policies, procedures and conditions of employment, including those outlined in the Employee Handbook
  • Get along well with others and be a team player
  • Other duties will be assigned as needed
