Job Description
Grandad's Farm Stop is a mission-driven local grocery and café set to open its doors in Madison, Wisconsin in August 2026. This innovative establishment is dedicated to uplifting local farmers and nurturing the regional food ecosystem through a unique farm stop model. Unlike traditional grocery stores, Grandad's Farm Stop creates a year-round indoor marketplace where farmers have the autonomy to set their own prices and retain 70 percent of every sale. This direct connection between Wisconsin farmers and customers fosters a stronger community relationship and promotes sustainable, locally sourced food practices. Alongside the market, the café serves a variety of locally roasted coffee, pastries, smoothies, and other fresh offerings, making it a vibrant hub for both shopping and socializing. The business operates seven days a week, from 7 am to 7 pm, ensuring accessibility and convenience for all customers.
The role of Cafe and Market Clerk at Grandad's Farm Stop is a multi-faceted position designed for individuals who thrive in dynamic environments and are passionate about community-centered food culture. This opportunity is available in both part-time and full-time capacities, with a starting pay of $17 per hour plus tips. Part-time roles typically require about 14-20 hours per week, while full-time positions involve 40 hours weekly, with availability needed across mornings, evenings, and weekends. Employees will experience a variety of responsibilities as they are cross-trained to work both in the café and the market areas. This means no two shifts will be exactly the same, providing a lively and engaging work environment that supports professional growth and learning.
Working at Grandad's Farm Stop means being part of the initial team shaping the culture, systems, and daily operations of a brand-new business. Staff members are integral to every aspect of the mission—from delivering excellent customer service to preparing high-quality beverages and managing the presentation and stocking of market products. Applicants who join this ground-floor opportunity will have the unique chance to influence the future direction and success of Grandad's Farm Stop. The company values warmth, reliability, and a genuine connection to local food in its team members, including those who may not have previous food service experience but are eager to learn and aligned with the mission. Weekend availability is required, and physical demands such as standing for extended periods and lifting up to 50 pounds are part of the role.
Benefits of working at Grandad's Farm Stop include a 20 percent store discount, free coffee during shifts, and a paid time off program available to all employees. The environment is inclusive and welcoming, with the company embracing equal opportunity employment principles and encouraging candidates from diverse backgrounds to apply. This position offers not only competitive pay and benefits but also the rewarding experience of contributing to a sustainable local food system and a vibrant community marketplace.
