Job Description
Bluecrew is a dynamic staffing platform that connects reliable workers with flexible job opportunities across various industries, including food service and event staffing. Known for its commitment to employee well-being and flexibility, Bluecrew serves a diverse clientele throughout Illinois and other states by providing dependable staffing solutions that meet the demands of fast-paced environments. Employees of Bluecrew gain access to numerous benefits, including medical, dental, vision, term life, short-term disability, and retirement plans, reflecting the company's dedication to supporting its workforce's health and financial security. In addition, all Illinois-based crewmembers are entitled to accrue and utilize paid time off, demonstrating the company’s focus on work-life balance and employee satisfaction.
The Barista and Event Staff position available through Bluecrew involves preparing and serving a wide variety of beverages, such as espresso, cappuccino, latte, and tea, while delivering excellent customer service. This role requires operating coffee machines and other equipment safely and efficiently to ensure quality beverages are prepared according to customer preferences. In addition to beverage preparation, responsibilities include taking customer orders, handling payments using cash or card systems, and maintaining a clean and organized workstation, including equipment and seating areas. Employees are also expected to restock supplies such as coffee beans, milk, syrups, and cups to ensure smooth and continuous service.
The role demands a friendly and attentive approach to customer service, promoting menu items and upselling when appropriate to enhance customer experience and increase sales. Adherence to health, safety, and hygiene standards is mandatory, especially for those handling food or beverages, ensuring the environment remains safe and comfortable for both customers and staff. The role also requires custom drink preparation tailored to individual customer preferences, reflecting an emphasis on personalized service.
Beyond the barista duties, event staff responsibilities may include working independently or as part of a team to cook, prepare, serve, or transport food items at events. Staff must be comfortable operating point of sale machines or cash registers while engaging customers in a professional manner. Maintaining cleanliness by sanitizing dishes, utensils, and cooking equipment at the start or end of shifts is critical. The job often involves extensive physical activity, such as standing for long periods, moving around, reaching, crouching, bending, and other strenuous tasks as directed by supervisors.
The fast-paced and sometimes hectic nature of event service work requires employees who can remain composed and efficient under pressure. Bluecrew emphasizes proper attire, generally requesting close-toed shoes and pants, with additional dress code requirements depending on the specific event or food handling role. For food service positions, employees must follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), such as maintaining neat, pulled-up hair, trimmed fingernails, and possibly covering facial hair to meet sanitary standards.
Overall, this position offers a comprehensive experience in food and beverage service, combining customer interaction, hands-on preparation, and teamwork in a dynamic work environment. Bluecrew’s supportive benefits package and flexible scheduling options make this an attractive opportunity for individuals seeking employment in the event and food service sectors with a company focused on employee health and safety.
