Job Description
Our establishment is a vibrant and customer-focused coffee shop dedicated to providing high-quality beverages and an exceptional customer experience. We are committed to maintaining a welcoming environment where customers can enjoy expertly crafted coffee, teas, smoothies, and other beverages. Our team thrives on passion for coffee, excellent service, and creating a friendly atmosphere for all visitors. As a barista, you will play a crucial role in delivering this promise, consistently preparing delicious drinks and engaging positively with customers.
This position reports directly to the Store Manager, Assistant Manager, or Shift Lead, reflecting the importance of teamwork and supervisory support in our daily operations. The barista role is more than just making coffee; it involves a comprehensive set of responsibilities that ensure smooth operations and high customer satisfaction.
As a Barista, your primary duties will include preparing and serving a variety of beverages according to precise recipes and customers' individual preferences. Proficiency in operating coffee brewing equipment, espresso machines, grinders, and other related tools is essential to guarantee the consistency and quality of every drink served. Adhering strictly to food safety and sanitation guidelines ensures that health standards are met and customers feel confident in the quality of their beverages.
Customer service is at the heart of this role. Greeting customers warmly, taking accurate orders, and answering questions about menu items, ingredients, and promotions are daily tasks. Handling any customer concerns professionally and escalating issues when necessary is vital to maintaining a positive atmosphere. Building rapport with regular patrons helps foster loyalty and repeat business.
Managing transactions accurately using the point-of-sale (POS) system and maintaining a balanced cash drawer are critical for financial integrity. The barista must be comfortable processing various payment methods including cash, credit cards, and mobile payments while following all cash handling procedures meticulously.
Maintaining a clean and organized workspace is another key aspect of the role. Regularly cleaning and sanitizing work areas, equipment, counters, tables, floors, and restrooms, plus restocking and properly storing supplies, ensures that the store remains inviting and efficient in operation. The barista also follows assigned opening and closing procedures to prepare the store for each day and close it securely and neatly.
Additional tasks may include preparing and serving food items such as pastries and sandwiches, inventory management, assisting with deliveries and stocking, attending team meetings and training sessions, promoting specials and new menu items, and participating in marketing activities. Flexibility and a willingness to assist where needed contribute to the overall success of the store.
Core competencies that contribute to success in this role include customer focus, attention to detail, efficiency and time management, excellent communication skills, teamwork, problem-solving abilities, product knowledge, adaptability, integrity, and responsibility. These skills ensure the barista provides superior service, maintains quality standards, and works harmoniously within the team.
The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent, previous barista experience is preferred but not mandatory, and must possess basic math skills for cash handling. Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 pounds is required. Candidates should be flexible with their working hours, including availability during mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. A food handler certification is also necessary to ensure compliance with safety standards.
Our company is deeply committed to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) values. We cultivate a culture of acceptance and take meaningful action to promote outreach, education, and environmental stewardship. Joining our team means becoming part of an organization that prioritizes positive societal and environmental impacts, making your work here more fulfilling and aligned with greater purpose.
