Job Description

Habitat for Humanity of the Charlotte Region is a leading nonprofit organization committed to building homes, communities, and hope in Charlotte and its surrounding areas. Since its inception in 1983, Habitat for Humanity has partnered with over 3,000 families to provide affordable housing solutions through new home construction, recycling existing homes, critical home repair projects, and financial literacy training. The organization plays a vital role in transforming lives and strengthening neighborhoods by ensuring that every family has access to safe, decent, and affordable housing. Julia's Café and Books, one of Charlotte's best-kept secrets, is part of this inspiring mission, offering a unique coffee shop experience that blends a love for coffee, books, and community service.

Julia’s Café and Books is currently seeking a part-time Barista who is enthusiastic, customer-focused, and passionate about coffee and books. This role is ideal for individuals who thrive in a lively and community-oriented environment. The Barista will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service, sharing accurate product knowledge, and maintaining the cleanliness and aesthetics of the café. This is more than just a coffee-serving role; it is about creating an inviting atmosphere for customers who appreciate quality coffee and a great selection of books, making every visit a memorable experience.

The position at Julia’s Café and Books offers flexible scheduling with an estimated 10-25 hours per week and some weekend work required. Compensation is competitive with a wage of $12.50 per hour plus tips. In addition to hourly pay, part-time team members have access to valuable benefits, including paid time off (PTO), flexible spending accounts, and a retirement plan with up to a 3% match.

The Barista will also assist in training volunteers, play a role in enforcing cash handling procedures, and perform additional Habitat Charlotte job-related tasks as requested by supervisors. This role requires the ability to engage warmly with both customers and volunteers, representing Habitat for Humanity's mission in every interaction. Minimal supervision is required, and the Barista will report directly to Julia’s Café and Books Manager.

This opportunity not only offers a chance to work with one of Charlotte’s beloved community cafés but also to support Habitat for Humanity’s wider mission of providing affordable housing and stability to families in need. Ideal candidates will have prior customer service experience and the physical ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 30 pounds, and handle register operations accurately.

Habitat for Humanity of the Charlotte Region is an Equal Opportunity Employer and a drug-free workplace. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen and background check. This organization encourages residents qualifying under Section 3 of the HUD Act to apply, promoting equal opportunities for all community members. Join a passionate team dedicated to making a difference while enjoying the camaraderie of a unique café environment in the heart of Charlotte.
