The position available is a part-time Food Services role based at the Downtown Milwaukee campus, specifically within the Retention & Completion division. Working under the direction of Food & Beverage leadership, this position involves a variety of food service responsibilities, including catering support, kitchen duties, and operating in coffee shop and convenience store settings. The hourly wage ranges from $14.69 to $18.36, depending on experience and qualifications, and the role spans 43 weeks annually with a typical schedule of up to 19 hours per week, primarily from 6:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The professional is expected to deliver exceptional customer service to guests while maintaining a clean, safe, and professional work environment. Responsibilities include food preparation aligned with daily menu specifications, beverage preparation such as coffee, tea, and smoothies, and sanitary maintenance, including dishwashing and food sanitation standards. The individual must be adept at handling cashier duties and managing registers, maintaining proper inventory levels to ensure smooth operations. Additionally, the role requires troubleshooting equipment, communicating effectively with supervisors, promoting menu options, and suggesting improvements for seasonal or new food and drink items.
This role is ideal for candidates with one to three years of barista experience and a high school diploma. The successful candidate will demonstrate competencies such as innovation, accountability, effective collaboration, strong communication skills, customer orientation, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Physical stamina is also important due to duties involving lifting up to 50 pounds and standing for extended periods. Job Qualifications
- Compliance with all state, federal, and accreditation standards/requirements, as well as all MATC policies and procedures
- High School Diploma
- One to three years of experience performing as a barista, preferred
- Knowledge of trends, issues, and accepted practices relevant to the position
- Ability to prepare specialty coffee drinks
- Knowledge of personal hygiene and sanitation standards
- Skilled at basic mathematical functions and applications
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to utilize excellent customer services skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds
- Ability to communicate effectively through both oral and written means
- Self-starter with ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to complete online mandatory in-services
Job Duties
- Responsible for taking and preparing quality beverages: coffee, tea, smoothies, per recipe specifications, in a fast paced, high-pressure environment
- Food preparation of menu items: sandwiches, bakery, and other items
- Cashier knowledge and register maintenance, including daily receipt deposits
- Clean and stock area, including keeping an accurate inventory for ordering purposes
- Prepare coffee and tea blends packages for retail sales
- Clean, maintain and troubleshoot equipment, as needed, notify supervisor for obtain outside service
- Must display knowledge, and educate guest on brewing methods
