We are currently hiring for full-time and part-time Barista positions at Purdue University Fort Wayne. This opportunity is ideal for energetic and customer-oriented individuals who thrive in fast-paced environments and enjoy interacting with diverse groups of people. Baristas will be responsible for preparing and serving coffee and espresso drinks along with related food and beverage items, adhering strictly to food safety and quality standards as outlined by HACCP guidelines. This role offers competitive pay, ranging from $17.00 to $19.00 per hour, with flexible scheduling options that include weekdays and occasional weekends to meet service demands.

As a Barista at Purdue University Fort Wayne, you will be the face of the coffee service, greeting customers courteously and ensuring a positive experience that encourages repeat visits. Your duties will encompass accurately taking orders using POS devices, maintaining cleanliness and orderliness in your work area, replenishing supplies, and ensuring that all products are presented attractively and served at the proper temperatures. A key part of the role involves understanding the daily menu and effectively communicating options to customers, helping them make informed purchases.

One year of prior barista experience preferred
availability to work full time or part time
ability to work Monday through Friday with some weekends as needed

Job Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent
prior barista experience preferred
ability to operate POS systems accurately
excellent customer service skills
knowledge of food safety and HACCP standards

ability to maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards
ability to handle cash and charge payments accurately

Job Duties

Prepares espresso orders for customers and catering using standard measures and recipes
enters orders accurately into POS device
accepts cash and charge payments
replenishes condiments, beverages and general supplies while maintaining cleanliness of service area
ensures proper presentation, portion control and maintenance of proper serving temperatures
maintains sanitation and orderliness of all equipment, supplies and utensils
ensures proper food preparation by using approved recipes and following prescribed production standards
keeps display equipment clean and free of debris during meal service
cleans equipment and workstation thoroughly before leaving area for other assignments
greets customers courteously and interacts in a manner to ensure customer satisfaction
relays relevant concerns from customers to supervisors
serves customers quickly and efficiently, and prevents delays in serving lines
demonstrates a complete understanding of daily menu items and accurately explains them to customers
serves as an advocate of selling techniques to the customer by establishing good communication and assisting in the buying decision-making process
ensures all display foods are merchandised attractively per standards
serves food neatly and attractively per standard
performs other duties as assigned
