Job Description
The University of Wisconsin, located in Green Bay, WI, is a renowned educational institution committed to providing quality higher education and fostering a vibrant campus community. The university is known for its diverse academic programs, inclusive culture, and dedication to creating an environment where students, faculty, and staff can thrive both academically and personally. Serving the needs of its community extends beyond the classroom, with services such as on-campus dining options that contribute to an engaging and comfortable experience for everyone on site. Part of this service includes the Chartwells Higher Education dining program, which operates on campus and is dedicated to offering high-quality food and beverage services that meet the standards of excellence expected by the university and its visitors.
We are currently hiring full-time and part-time Barista positions at the University of Wisconsin’s Green Bay campus located at 2420 Nicolet Drive. These positions offer an hourly wage ranging from $12.00 to $18.00 depending on experience and shift. The schedules vary, including PM shifts, rotating weekends, and other hours that will be detailed during the interview process. The role of a Barista at the University of Wisconsin is integral to providing a welcoming and efficient customer service experience while preparing and serving coffee, espresso drinks, and related food and beverage items.
As a Barista, you will be responsible for preparing espresso orders using standardized recipes and measures to ensure consistency and quality. You will engage with customers in a friendly and courteous manner, ensuring customer satisfaction and providing accurate information about menu items. Handling cash and card payments accurately through POS devices will be part of your daily tasks. Maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of the service area, equipment, utensils, and supply stations is essential to meet health standards outlined by HACCP guidelines. Baristas are also expected to manage inventory items such as condiments and beverage supplies to keep the service area fully stocked.
This position is designed for individuals who enjoy interacting with people, have a keen interest in coffee culture, and seek opportunities for both personal and professional growth. While prior barista experience is preferred, it is not required, as training and development opportunities are provided to help you succeed. The university campus offers a supportive work environment that values each team member and encourages contributions that make a meaningful impact.
Moreover, this role offers additional benefits beyond competitive pay including access to health and wellness programs, retirement plans, associate shopping perks, and other voluntary benefits like pet insurance and identity theft protection. Full-time employees also receive comprehensive medical, dental, vision benefits, life and disability insurance, commuter benefits, employee assistance programs, and flexible spending accounts. The position is subject to the unique scheduling patterns common in educational facilities, which may include unpaid breaks during periods when food services are reduced, such as winter and summer breaks. Opportunities for year-round work at alternate locations may be available depending on business needs.
At the University of Wisconsin, diversity and inclusion are cornerstones of the organizational culture. The employer is an equal opportunity provider committed to fair treatment that supports ability, achievement, and experience without discrimination based on race, gender, age, disability, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or other legally protected categories. Qualified candidates should be capable of performing the essential functions with or without accommodations. This role provides a gateway for those seeking a meaningful employment opportunity within an established institution, offering both professional development and a chance to be part of a dedicated team serving the campus community.
