Job Description

SpartanNash, a proud member of the C&S Wholesale Grocers family of companies, is a prominent food solutions company committed to delivering the ingredients for a better life. As a multifaceted business serving as a distributor, wholesaler, and retailer, SpartanNash operates a vast global supply chain network that efficiently distributes grocery and household goods, including fresh produce and the company's own Our Family® portfolio, to locations across all 50 states of the United States. This extensive reach supports various customers, ranging from national accounts and independent grocers to chain grocers, e-commerce retailers, U.S. military commissaries and exchanges, as well as SpartanNash’s own brick-and-mortar grocery stores, pharmacies, and fuel centers.

SpartanNash boasts a diverse and braggingly happy team comprising roles such as bakery managers, order selectors, IT developers, finance vice presidents, HR business partners, and export specialists. These dedicated professionals collaborate to create exceptional customer experiences across multiple channels, ensuring the continued growth and success of the company within the food distribution and retail industry.

The current opportunity is based in Byron Center, Michigan, at the address 850 76th Street S.W., and seeks motivated candidates to join the team as Coffee Shop Associates. This role is vital in providing an inviting and high-quality service experience for customers at the store's coffee shop. The primary responsibilities include preparing coffee beverages and food items to the company’s established quality standards, operating the cash register efficiently while processing a variety of payment methods, and ensuring exceptional customer service at all times.

The Coffee Shop Associate plays a key role in maintaining food safety standards and sanitation within the work environment, ensuring all beverages and food are handled correctly and served in a clean, welcoming setting. Attention to product stock levels and rotation of merchandise displays also falls under this position’s duties. Associates will maintain knowledge of current store programs, promotions, and product locations to assist customers effectively. Operating check-stand and coffee equipment properly is essential for delivering swift and accurate service.

This hourly position suits candidates looking to contribute to a customer-focused environment where teamwork and attention to detail matter. The Coffee Shop Associate is expected to uphold SpartanNash’s People First culture by following safety guidelines, food safety and cleaning protocols, and dedicated guest experience standards. The role may require flexibility, including potential assignments in other departments as dictated by customer experience needs.

The ideal candidate will have at least a high school diploma or GED, and preferably one year of retail or related experience. Strong communication skills and the ability to engage politely and effectively with customers are crucial. Organizational skills and an eye for detail are necessary, along with basic reading, writing, and arithmetic capabilities. Physical demands include frequent lifting of up to 30 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds, prolonged standing and walking, and ability to bend and twist as needed.

SpartanNash is proud to offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package in alignment with its People First culture, promoting associate development, recognition, two-way communication, and inclusivity. As an Equal Opportunity Employer, SpartanNash is committed to creating a diverse workplace and providing employment opportunities for all qualified individuals, including veterans and those with disabilities.
