Job Description
Third Place is a vibrant and welcoming cafe located within JUN, a renowned establishment known for its innovative approach and culinary excellence. JUN is owned by distinguished chefs Henry Lu and Evelyn Garcia, who are finalists in this year's prestigious James Beard Foundation Awards. This accolade underscores the commitment to quality, creativity, and outstanding guest experience that both JUN and Third Place uphold. As a daytime cafe, Third Place operates with a dynamic atmosphere, featuring daily guest chefs who bring unique culinary perspectives and elevate the cafe's offerings beyond the ordinary. This ever-changing lineup ensures that guests enjoy fresh and diverse menu choices, showcasing high-quality cafe fare that delights both regulars and newcomers alike.
In addition to its culinary pursuits, Third Place places a strong emphasis on fostering community engagement and supporting local arts. The cafe frequently hosts events that bring local artists and patrons together, offering workshops such as flower arranging, hand sculpture building, and photography classes. These community-driven initiatives not only enrich the cultural fabric of the neighborhood but also create an inviting space where creativity and connection thrive. Art shows featuring students and guest vendors further enhance the cafe’s role as a cultural hub, encouraging artistic expression and providing opportunities for emerging talents to showcase their work.
The role at Third Place is designed for individuals who are passionate about delivering exceptional service and contributing to a team-oriented environment. As a member of the cafe staff, you will engage directly with guests, ensuring that their experience is seamless, enjoyable, and memorable. Responsibilities include operating espresso machines, preparing tea and pour-over coffee, greeting guests with warmth, and articulating detailed descriptions of menu items. A strong understanding of food allergies is essential for maintaining guest well-being, underscoring the cafe’s commitment to safety and inclusivity.
Other key duties involve maintaining and resetting tables, running food and drinks efficiently, and assisting with the setup and closing breakdown of the cafe each day. This position requires someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, demonstrates excellent organizational skills, and communicates effectively with both guests and team members. Standing for extended periods and working collaboratively with others are fundamental aspects of this role.
Joining Third Place means becoming part of a passionate, community-focused team dedicated to continuous improvement—both in guest experience and workplace culture. If you have a love for the art of coffee and food service and want to contribute to a creative, supportive environment, this opportunity is perfect for you. The cafe’s commitment to excellence, community engagement, and culinary innovation makes it a desirable place to grow your skills and advance your career in the restaurant and cafe industry.
