The Barista position at Sodexo, based at the UMASS Memorial Medical Center - Memorial Campus, is an on-call part-time role that offers a pay rate of $16.00 per hour. This role requires open availability to work any shift, with further details provided during the interview process. As a Barista with Sodexo, your primary responsibility will be to deliver exceptional customer service while crafting high-quality hand-made beverages. This position demands attentiveness to guest needs, providing quick, friendly, and personalized service that enhances the customer experience. You will be tasked with preparing a variety of hot and cold drinks, including coffee, espresso, cappuccinos, café lattes, tea, chai, and fruit blend beverages, all tailored to individual customer specifications.
The role extends beyond beverage preparation to include maintaining positive customer relations and ensuring prompt delivery of food and drinks. You will educate customers on menu options and recommend additional items to enhance their visit. Displaying and arranging coffee supplies and making attractive presentations are also part of the duties. A strong emphasis is placed on cleanliness and sanitation, requiring regular cleaning of coffee machines and preparation areas. You will be handling cash transactions and operating a cash register while adhering to the company's cash-handling policies.
This position is physically demanding; it requires significant walking or mobility, the ability to stand for extended periods exceeding 8 hours, and the capacity to reach, bend, stoop, push, pull, and lift up to 35 pounds frequently, with occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds. Punctuality and regular attendance for scheduled shifts are essential for success in this role. Since the Barista position is part of a larger team effort, flexibility to perform other duties as needed based on business necessities and client requirements is expected.

- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience
- customer service related work experience
- knowledge of food preparation, sanitation, standards, and inventory control systems
- Starbucks Baristas may be required to be certified

Job Duties
- Greets all guests and provides quick, friendly, and personalized service
- mixes and serves hot and cold beverages such as coffee, espresso, cappuccino, café latte, tea, chai, fruit blend drinks, etc., while considering customer specifications
- works to maintain good customer relations and speedy delivery of all beverages and food items
- educates guests regarding menu offerings and initiates suggestive selling
- arranges coffee bar/cart supplies and cups/mugs to make attractive displays
- often cleans coffee machines, restaurant areas, and preparation areas
- records all sales, collects money, operates a cash register, and follows all cash-handling procedures as required
- significant walking or other means of mobility
