Job Description

Calvary Chapel is a well-established religious community known for its commitment to fostering spiritual growth, community outreach, and providing a welcoming environment for guests and members alike. Located within its Food Services department is the Grill, a key part of the campus that offers guests and students exceptional food and beverage options served with a warm and friendly approach. The chapel embraces a culture of service that honors Christian values and encourages staff members to reflect their faith in their work. As a result, the Food Services team operates with a spirit of hospitality and grace, aiming to create a pleasant and uplifting dining experience for everyone who visits.

The Barista position within Calvary Chapel's Food Services department is a temporary, part-time role designed to support the chapel's mission by delivering exceptional food and beverage service. The role reports directly to the Assistant Restaurant Manager and is classified as non-exempt and hourly, with approximately 20 hours of work per week. This position is ideal for individuals passionate about serving others, particularly within a faith-based environment that values professionalism, personality, and dedication to God’s teachings. The Barista will be entrusted with practical responsibilities such as brewing coffee, preparing a variety of beverages, and ensuring that the food displays are inviting and meet high-quality standards.

Working as a Barista here means being part of a team devoted to servicing a high volume of guests with warmth and efficiency. The candidate is expected to operate a POS system confidently, handling cash, credit, and gift card transactions accurately. They will also be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and health standards of the barista area, restocking pastry cases while checking for freshness, and performing opening and closing side-work duties. A critical part of the role is to constantly develop beverage and food knowledge, ensuring that service is not only swift but also knowledgeable and detailed.

The ideal Barista possesses strong interpersonal skills, a generous spirit of hospitality, and a deep personal commitment to Jesus Christ, aligning their work ethic with the chapel’s spiritual mission. This role requires flexibility, a team-oriented mindset, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment where being on one’s feet for extended periods is common. The Barista will embody qualities such as stewardship, compassion, and a heart for service, which are all core aspects of the chapel’s values.

Beyond just the technical skills, this position emphasizes a lifestyle that integrates faith, personal growth in scripture, and active participation in worship and prayer. The chapel seeks someone who is a part of a supportive community, dedicated to maintaining high standards of professionalism, and willing to contribute to a family-like staff culture. This includes mandatory attendance at staff meetings and participation in major campus events, underscoring the importance of teamwork and shared purpose.

Overall, the Barista role at Calvary Chapel is much more than a food service position; it is an opportunity to serve within a vibrant spiritual community, offering hospitality that glories God while delivering quality experiences to guests. It provides a meaningful work environment for those who are eager to grow personally, spiritually, and professionally while making a positive impact on the lives of others through food and beverage service.
