As a Barista, you will participate in a variety of scheduled shifts—opening, mid, and closing—supporting both in-cafe and mobile order services. You will master the art of preparing premium espresso-based drinks and batch brews in accordance with company standards, handling registers, managing workflow efficiently, and delivering genuine and warm customer interactions. Your role also includes maintaining an organized and safe cafe environment through regular cleaning, deep-cleaning tasks, and equipment maintenance. Additionally, you will contribute to inventory management by assisting with stocking and restocking supplies, supporting accurate inventory tracking, and participating in prep tasks like syrup batching.
This position requires adaptability, strong communication skills, and the ability to remain calm and professional during busy and demanding periods. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Prior experience as a barista or in customer-facing hospitality preferred
- Ability to stand and move throughout the cafe for extended periods
- Ability to lift and carry items up to approximately 40-50 pounds
- Ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist movements
- Strong work ethic and willingness to engage in all aspects of cafe operations
- Ability to work varied shifts including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with team members and customers

Job Duties
- Contribute to a positive, respectful, and inclusive team culture
- Uphold Olympia Coffee’s standards for hospitality, coffee quality, and professionalism
- Participate in the ongoing development and care of the cafe and its systems
- Maintain strong working knowledge of coffee, food, and retail products
- Communicate clearly with all team members to support smooth daily operations
- Work a variety of scheduled shifts per week, including opening, mid, and/or closing shifts
- Perform standard bar operations, including register, espresso bar, batch brew, and drink production
- Consistently and efficiently prepare high-quality beverages to Olympia Coffee standards
- Provide warm, genuine, and attentive customer service
- Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and calm cafe environment, even during high-volume periods
- Troubleshoot service flow, drink execution, and guest needs in real time
- Demonstrate effective conflict management and de-escalation skills
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe cafe throughout each shift
- Complete daily, weekly, and periodic deep-cleaning tasks including dishwashing, bar cleaning, and floor care
- Properly use, clean, and care for espresso machines, grinders, brewers, and other equipment
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as backflushing and grinder cleaning
- Identify and communicate equipment issues promptly
- Assist with stocking and restocking cafe supplies and retail items
- Support inventory accuracy and participate in prep work
- Help maintain efficient systems for product rotation, storage, and waste reduction
