Job Description

Bargain Lane is a dynamic discount retail company with a strong presence in Indiana and Michigan, operating six physical stores, an online auction platform, and bargain bins that reward avid shoppers. The company is rooted in the philosophy of delivering unbeatable deals every day, creating an exciting treasure hunt experience for customers looking to find bargains and unique items. By blending a fast-moving inventory with innovative online auctions and local bargain bins, Bargain Lane has established itself as a go-to destination for value-conscious shoppers who enjoy the thrill of discovering great deals.

The company is now expanding its presence into live online selling through its new Whatnot channel, Bargain Lane Live. This channel operates Monday through Thursday from their Fort Wayne warehouse, offering viewers a continuous stream of inventory and engaging auction experiences. The live selling model they embrace is fast-paced, relentless, and focused on closing sales in real time, mimicking the energy and pace of traditional auctioneering or QVC-style selling rather than social media content creation or influencer marketing.

This full-time live seller role is central to the online channel’s success, requiring a charismatic host who can maintain high energy levels on camera for an extended period and drive consistent bidding action. Unlike a traditional content creator, the host at Bargain Lane Live will work closely with a show assistant to manage item flow and auctions, engaging the audience by name and keeping the momentum alive across roughly 350 items per show. The goal is to create a sense of urgency and excitement that compels viewers to bid actively and participate in the live auction experience.

The position is Monday through Thursday, aligned with the live show window between 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM, at their Fort Wayne warehouse. The role is not only about product description but about being a natural salesperson who thrives under pressure, adapts quickly to the audience mood, and consistently closes sales. Bargain Lane does not require prior experience with the Whatnot platform, offering thorough training, but they emphasize the importance of innate personality, pace, and sales instinct.

In addition to competitive base pay ranging from $16 to $19 per hour, this role includes an uncapped performance bonus structure designed to reward hosts based on show gross merchandise value (GMV). Bonuses start at $25 for shows reaching $2,000 to $2,999 in sales, increase to $50 for $3,000 to $4,999, and offer $100 or more when exceeding $5,000. This structure allows high-performing hosts to substantially increase their earnings by maintaining energetic, engaging, and effective live shows.

The hiring process is designed to identify candidates who can perform under the pressure of live selling. Applicants are asked to submit a two-minute unedited, unscripted video selling any nearby item to demonstrate their natural sales ability and charisma. Successful candidates will then participate in a live audition in which they sell multiple apparel items live without preparation. Both stages emphasize authentic sales talent and live selling skills crucial for success at Bargain Lane Live.

Bargain Lane operates with an inclusive and equitable hiring policy under The Jay Group, ensuring a discrimination-free work environment and valuing diversity in all forms. The company culture celebrates hard work, adaptability, and continuous improvement, making it an ideal workplace for individuals who enjoy a high-energy, customer-facing role that combines retail savvy with live digital sales expertise.
