Job Description

The Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department is a nationally accredited department and a four time National Gold Medal Award winner for Parks and Recreation Excellence. This prestigious recognition underscores the department's dedication to providing exceptional recreational services and facilities to the residents of Greensboro. Serving a vibrant community, the department is focused on enhancing its existing assets while expanding its offerings through strategic partnerships and innovative programs. The ultimate goal is to create a vibrant, healthy, and equitable park system that benefits all community members. Recognized for its strong commitment to excellence, the department continuously strives to deliver transformational recreational experiences that positively impact the quality of life in Greensboro.

The department is currently seeking talented and enthusiastic individuals who share this vision and possess a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and a genuine passion for making a difference. The position being offered is a roster employment opportunity within the City of Greensboro. Roster positions are hourly roles that provide valuable work experience and the chance to contribute meaningfully to the community. While these roles do not include standard benefits such as medical, dental, vision insurance, life insurance, paid leave, or paid holidays, they serve as an excellent pathway to full-time benefits-eligible employment within the city's recreation services.

As a roster employee, you will be actively involved in overseeing facilities and events, making informed operational and personnel decisions while adhering to outlined guidelines. Providing excellent customer service and professional communication both in person and over the phone is a key component of the role. You will be responsible for maintaining a thorough understanding of all relevant rules, policies, and procedures connected to your position. Event preparation duties will include setting up, tearing down, and carrying out custodial tasks to ensure that facilities are ready for rentals and community events.

Duty of care to customers includes attending to their needs before, during, and after events, while acting as a liaison between department staff and event guests. Regular communication with supervisors and prompt responses to work-related requests are expected to maintain smooth operational flow. Participation in staff meetings and training sessions will be essential to keep up-to-date with departmental standards and policies.

Additional responsibilities comprise assisting with coverage of other duties, facilities, programs, and events within Barber Park or Gateway Gardens, along with supporting broader department activities as needed. Work schedules for this position are highly flexible and vary based on facility needs. The facilities are in use any day of the week from Sunday through Saturday, with shifts possible anytime between 7 a.m. and 1 a.m. This flexibility requires readiness to work varied hours to support community programming and events.

The physical demands of this role include standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, walking on uneven surfaces, and regularly lifting objects up to 50 pounds. Tasks often involve moving tables, chairs, and other equipment to facilitate event setups and breakdowns. This hands-on involvement ensures that the facilities remain in excellent condition and that community members enjoy their recreational experiences.

Candidates interested in joining the Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department through this roster position will find an opportunity to grow professionally in an environment that combines community service, teamwork, and recreation excellence. This position helps individuals develop valuable skills in event management, customer service, and facility operations, all within a supportive and award-winning organization. If you are driven by a commitment to community enrichment and ready to contribute your skills to a respected department, this role offers a promising and dynamic career path.
