Job Description
Hotel Heron, located in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, is a chic 134-room boutique hotel blending historic charm with modern amenities. Originally opened in 1926 as the George Mason Hotel, the property has been thoughtfully adapted to include an adjacent new building featuring a contemporary event space and elevated guest rooms. The hotel offers guests not only a place to stay but an immersive experience filled with locally inspired Mid-Atlantic cuisine served in the signature ground-floor restaurant, a cozy craft cocktail bar, and an open-air seasonal rooftop bar boasting unparalleled views of the Potomac River. In addition to its dining and beverage offerings, Hotel Heron provides guests with a state-of-the-art fitness center and versatile meeting spaces designed for socializing, co-working, creating, eating, drinking, and relaxing.
As part of Aparium Hospitality Services, the hotel operates within a progressive environment that deeply values diversity, equity, and inclusivity, demonstrating strong commitment to creating a respectful workplace where every employee feels a true sense of belonging. Aparium Hospitality Services is an Equal Opportunity Employer and participates in E-Verify, underscoring the importance placed on integrity and fairness in hiring practices. The brand’s ethos centers on welcoming team members from diverse backgrounds and supporting them as they grow alongside the business.
Reporting directly to the Food & Beverage (F+B) Manager, the Barback role at Hotel Heron is an integral part of the hospitality team, designed for individuals eager to support a dynamic and busy bar and restaurant service. This part-time, non-exempt position offers a unique opportunity to work in the historic setting of Old Town Alexandria while gaining hands-on experience and sharpening skills in the vibrant field of hospitality. As a Barback, you will play a key supportive role in ensuring seamless service flow, helping bartenders and servers by maintaining stock, cleanliness, and readiness of the bar area.
Ideal candidates are passionate about working in the fast-paced environment of restaurant and bar service, thriving under pressure yet maintaining a warm and welcoming demeanor to all guests and coworkers. This role demands an energetic and detail-oriented individual who can multitask efficiently, anticipate needs proactively, and contribute positively to team success. Physical stamina is required, including the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform duties both indoors and outdoors. A curious mindset with foundational knowledge of food and beverage, complemented by a strong willingness to learn and grow, will help you thrive and advance in this position.
Working at Hotel Heron means joining a team where collaboration, respect, and vibrant personalities are celebrated. This role offers more than just a job—it provides a chance to be part of a community that values collective success, offers exposure to a variety of hospitality operations, and supports continuous professional development. You will be instrumental in delivering memorable experiences to guests while also developing a rewarding career in the hospitality industry. Joining Hotel Heron as a Barback ensures you contribute directly to the excellence of service in a beautiful and historic venue that proudly reflects Alexandria’s rich legacy and innovative spirit.
