Job Description
The Virginian Lodge is a cherished and long-standing landmark located in Jackson Hole, known for its authentic Western atmosphere, lively saloon, and genuine hospitality. Established as a prominent spot for locals and visitors alike, The Virginian Lodge offers an inviting environment where warm service and memorable guest experiences are a top priority. The Lodge is recognized for its unique blend of traditional Western charm combined with a bustling bar scene that captures the spirit of Jackson Hole. This esteemed establishment prides itself on maintaining a strong and capable bar team that works cohesively to ensure smooth and efficient service throughout the day and night.
The role of the Barback at The Virginian Lodge is an essential support position within this dynamic team. It caters to individuals who thrive in fast-paced, physical, and team-oriented environments, as this position plays a critical role in backing up bartenders and maintaining the seamless operation of the bar. A Barback’s duties revolve around keeping the bar stocked and organized at all times, ensuring bartenders have the tools and supplies necessary to deliver consistent and prompt service to guests. This position presents an excellent opportunity for individuals who enjoy working behind the scenes and supporting the flow of a busy hospitality venue.
The responsibility of the Barback includes managing inventory by restocking beer, liquor, wine, mixers, garnishes, glassware, napkins, ice, and other bar essentials regularly during service hours. Additionally, the role involves preparing basic garnishes and assisting with the bar setup at the start of shifts to enforce operational efficiency. The Barback also maintains clean and organized storage and work areas, assists with inventory tracking, and supports compliance with health, safety, and sanitation standards. Maintaining a spotless and safe workspace is vital to ensure the health and satisfaction of both guests and staff.
The Barback contributes significantly to the Lodge’s core mission of delivering authentic hospitality. The role requires excellent teamwork, as coordination with bartenders, servers, and bar leadership is routine. During busy periods, the Barback may assist with running drinks and food, ensuring that guests receive timely and attentive service, which enhances their overall experience at the Lodge. The role also includes participation in event setups and breakdowns for various lodge activities, further embedding the Barback into the vibrant community atmosphere of The Virginian Lodge.
This position is well-suited for individuals who have a strong work ethic, reliability, and the ability to stay organized under pressure. Physical stamina is important, as the nature of the work involves lifting, frequent bending, and standing for extended periods. The Barback must comply with Wyoming’s alcohol service regulations, requiring candidates to be at least 21 years old. While previous experience in barback roles, food running, or general hospitality is preferred, it is not mandatory. Candidates with a basic understanding of bar operations, bar tools, beverage terminology, or Wyoming liquor laws will find this role especially rewarding.
Working at The Virginian Lodge offers a varied and often lively schedule, including shifts during evenings, weekends, and holidays. The environment is a fast-paced bar and saloon setting that occasionally extends to outdoor event support, accommodating seasonal and year-round employment opportunities. Those who appreciate a team-oriented atmosphere and want hands-on experience at a respected Jackson Hole venue will find this position both engaging and enriching.
