Job Description

Red Bear Brewing Co. is a vibrant brewpub located in the heart of NoMa, Washington DC. As a relatively new establishment, Red Bear is deeply committed to crafting exceptional beers while fostering a welcoming and memorable atmosphere for all visitors. The brewpub offers a diverse selection of house-made beers alongside local wines, ciders, and cocktails, ensuring there is something for everyone to enjoy. Beyond serving quality drinks, Red Bear Brewing Co. focuses on building a strong community through engaging events, board games, and social activities that encourage camaraderie among guests. The environment is cozy and inviting, perfect for patrons to relax with friends or meet new people.

The company places a strong emphasis on responsible business practices, sustainability, diversity, and environmental stewardship. Red Bear Brewing Co. actively supports social justice causes such as Black Lives Matter and advocates for gay and transgender rights. The company also makes a sustained effort to address unconscious bias within its hiring process and daily operations, demonstrating a commitment to equity and inclusion.

The role available at Red Bear Brewing Co. is that of a taproom assistant who plays a crucial support function within the brewpub’s operations. This position demands a gracious, friendly, and patient demeanor with a helpful attitude toward guests to ensure a positive customer experience. Key responsibilities include bussing and cleaning tables, washing and organizing glassware, changing kegs efficiently, and taking direction from bartenders, taproom managers, and other staff. Candidates must have a strong knowledge of all products sold and be proactive in maintaining a clean and inviting taproom environment including restocking, setup and breakdown of service areas, and general cleaning tasks. Additionally, employees may represent the brand at local festivals and events, acting as ambassadors of the Red Bear Brewing Co. brand.

This is not an entry-level barback position but rather requires candidates to have at least one year of experience in a full-service restaurant setting, emphasizing professional service skills and familiarity with beverage operations. Sunday availability as well as some weekday daytime availability is required to meet operational needs. The company strongly prefers candidates with two or more years of bar experience, a flexible schedule, and fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) is a desired asset. Competitive hourly wages are offered based on experience alongside benefits such as a 401k program with employer matching for full-time employees, employer contributions to health insurance, sick leave, and staff discounts on brewery products. This opportunity provides a chance for individuals passionate about hospitality, community engagement, and making an impact within a socially conscious and inclusive environment.
