Job Description

Boxcar Bar + Arcade is a locally-owned hospitality and entertainment company with four unique locations across North Carolina. Each venue offers a carefully curated mix of games, craft drinks, delicious pizza, and memorable events, all designed to create a lively and engaging atmosphere. Rather than operating as a faceless chain, Boxcar places great emphasis on personality and connection, making every guest's experience special and authentic. From pinball enthusiasts and competitive skee-ball players to casual after-work crowds and party-goers, Boxcar appeals to a wide range of customers who appreciate a fun, relaxed, and welcoming vibe. The company culture is eclectic and sometimes eccentric, but always centered on inclusivity and excellent hospitality.

At Boxcar, the team members are the heart and soul of the operation. They work collaboratively to ensure that every night out is a good time for all guests. This collective commitment to service ethos fosters a community atmosphere where employees support one another and contribute to a positive and dynamic workplace environment.

The Barback position at Boxcar Bar + Arcade is a crucial role that serves as the foundation of the bar team. This entry-level role is ideal for individuals eager to learn the hospitality industry from the ground up and who possess a strong work ethic and a proactive attitude. Barbacks are essential in maintaining the smooth operation of the bar, anticipating the needs of bartenders so they never have to stop serving customers. This is a fast-paced role requiring physical stamina, attention to detail, and a willingness to take on various tasks ranging from stocking supplies to cleaning and event support.

The role requires the ability to thrive in a high-energy environment and a genuine interest in hospitality. Candidates will learn the intricacies of bar operation including keg changing, draft line cleaning, fruit preparation, and ensuring the area remains spotless to keep service efficient and enjoyable. Boxcar values kindness, integrity, and a team-first mentality, making it a place for individuals who are not only skilled but also aligned with the company culture of respect and supporting one another.

This is a full-time role that demands availability for weekend and closing shifts as well as private event support. Candidates must be at least 21 years old due to the nature of the bar environment. The company offers a competitive benefits package, including a 50% discount on pizza, after-shift drinks, and pathways for advancement within the company. Barbacks at Boxcar have the opportunity to grow into bartender or management roles, reflecting the company’s commitment to promoting from within.

Working at Boxcar means joining a team where humor, hospitality, and hustle coexist. The environment is fun and occasionally eccentric but always professional and welcoming, making it an ideal workplace for those ready to engage fully in the fast-paced hospitality industry while enjoying a culture that genuinely values its employees. If you have the drive, the physical ability, and the personality to thrive in this role, Boxcar is the perfect place to start or continue your hospitality career.
