Job Description
Peregrine, located within The Whitney Hotel in Boston's iconic Beacon Hill, is a distinctive Mediterranean restaurant specializing in the cuisine and culture from the Italian islands of Sardinia and Sicily, alongside the neighboring influences of Corsica and Catalonia. Inspired by the peregrine falcon, a bird known for its wide-ranging journey across these regions, Peregrine embraces a spirit of exploration and travel, inviting guests on a culinary journey unlike any other in the city. The restaurant prides itself on delivering an authentic and richly cultural experience, highlighting the vibrant and diverse flavors that define this Mediterranean region. This unique concept is reflected not only in the food but also in the beverages, ambiance, and hospitality provided at the establishment.
The Whitney Hotel, known for its blend of historic charm and modern luxury, offers a premier setting for Peregrine, attracting both locals and tourists eager to enjoy exceptional dining in a warm and inviting atmosphere. Within this environment, the bar serves as a crucial component, fostering a lively and engaging space where guests can unwind and experience expertly crafted cocktails, wines, spirits, and beers that complement the restaurant's Mediterranean theme.
The Bar Supervisor position at Peregrine is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the daily bar operations and ensuring the highest standards of beverage quality, guest service, operational efficiency, and team performance. This is a leadership role that requires keen attention to detail, strong operational management capabilities, and a passion for creating an outstanding guest experience. The supervisor is tasked with managing the execution of a thoughtful and innovative beverage program including cocktails, spirits, wines, and beers that resonate deeply with the restaurant’s brand and guest expectations.
The role involves close supervision and support of the bartending team, leading and coaching them to foster a professional and positive culture behind the bar. Preparing and serving beverages according to established recipes and presentation guidelines is fundamental, as is ensuring consistent quality and operational discipline through inventory management, cost control, and maintenance of bar organization and sanitation standards.
Moreover, the Bar Supervisor must uphold all relevant regulations pertaining to alcohol service, ensuring compliance and safety while maintaining a guest-focused approach. This includes overseeing ID verification practices and managing guest interactions with professionalism and hospitality. The position also involves supporting administrative and operational functions such as scheduling, inventory requisition, beverage costing, and contributing to menu engineering and revenue optimization efforts.
In addition to the operational focus, the Bar Supervisor plays an important role in aligning the beverage offerings with the restaurant’s dedication to sustainability and environmental stewardship through HHM’s EarthView program. Flexibility in scheduling and the ability to serve during high-volume periods or staff shortages reflect the dynamic nature of the hospitality industry at Peregrine.
This position is ideal for individuals seeking a career path in beverage management and hospitality leadership, offering potential advancement opportunities such as Beverage Manager, Restaurant Manager, and ultimately Food & Beverage Manager. The role expects someone who embodies the company’s core values: People Are Our Capability, Hearts That Serve, Only Excellence, Stay Nimble, and Own It. Overall, the Bar Supervisor at Peregrine is a vital leader ensuring an exceptional beverage experience that complements the restaurant’s rich Mediterranean identity and the high standards of The Whitney Hotel.
