The campus is designed to provide a comfortable, beautiful setting that fosters a sense of belonging, wellness, and purpose among its members. With a steadfast commitment to enriching lives, Westminster-Canterbury emphasizes respect, passion, and professionalism, creating a supportive atmosphere for both residents and staff alike. The organization is dedicated to fostering joy and vitality within the community, encouraging a culture of service, care, and engagement.
The Bar Service Team Member role at Westminster-Canterbury on Chesapeake Bay is a dynamic and integral position within the Dining Services team. This role, reporting to the Dining Room Supervisor, is primarily part-time or full-time non-exempt, hourly work based on day shift schedules, with a dining room that closes by 7 pm. Weekend availability is also required. This position is pivotal in delivering upscale and proper dining experiences to residents and their guests, ensuring quality service in line with federal, state, and local regulations and the community's own policies and procedures.
Bar Service Team Members at Westminster-Canterbury are responsible for crafting both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages according to established recipes while monitoring alcohol consumption to maintain compliance with standards. The versatility of the position is reflected in the variety of responsibilities, including performing duties as bartenders, wait staff, bussers, runners, hosts/hostesses, and cashiers depending on daily assignments. This multi-role approach supports the smooth operation of all dining venues and special events on campus.
The position requires a strong understanding of service flow, the ability to make resident seating recommendations, and effectively manage or escalate any issues that arise during meal service. Attention to detail is essential, with responsibilities including inventory counts, proper storage and labeling of food and beverage items, and maintaining cleanliness and organization in service areas throughout shifts. In addition, Bar Service Team Members are expected to uphold the community's safety and sanitation standards, including performing side work tasks efficiently and contributing to emergency preparedness, such as fire safety and evacuation protocols.
Candidates for this role must bring a high school diploma or equivalent and be at least 21 years old, with a clean, professional appearance, and the ability to use technological tools such as computer tablets for purchase processing. Previous experience in bartending or food service is preferred, along with knowledge of Virginia ABC regulations. Physical capabilities include the ability to lift and carry trays and carts, stand for long periods, and safely navigate the workspace while managing cleaning chemicals and kitchen equipment.
Compensation for this position ranges from $18.17 to $21.35 per hour, based on relevant experience. Westminster-Canterbury on Chesapeake Bay offers employees comprehensive benefits, including medical, dental, and vision insurance available from day one, life and disability insurance, retirement plans with employer matching, paid time off with holidays, tuition assistance, employee assistance programs, legal protection plans, team member discounts, and opportunities for career growth and leadership development. The organization is committed to an inclusive workplace, offering equal employment opportunities without discrimination. Employment is at-will, allowing flexibility for both parties within legal guidelines. Joining Westminster-Canterbury means becoming part of a community that values purpose, respect, and excellence in serving older adults in a nurturing environment.
