The Bar Manager role at the Country Club of Buffalo is a critical position within the Food and Beverage Department. This role involves close collaboration with the Catering Director, Banquet Manager, and Food and Beverage Manager to ensure seamless operation of the club's bar services. The Bar Manager oversees bar operations involving the a la carte restaurant, private parties, and member functions, requiring full engagement on evenings, holidays, and weekends. The position demands leadership of a bar team comprising 5-10 staff members depending on the season. The manager is responsible for recruiting, hiring, and conducting ongoing training for all bar team members, fostering a culture of excellence and professionalism. This role also requires the Bar Manager to maintain high standards through communication and accountability, ensuring all club policies and standards are met. Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school
- 4-5 years related experience or training
- certification in intervention training for responsible alcohol service
- proficiency with Jonas Club Management Software
- proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- ability to work evenings holidays and weekends
- ability to stand walk and use hands regularly
- ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
- compliance with club dress code and grooming standards
- ability to communicate effectively with members and staff
- commitment to uphold club policies and culture
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- hospitality degree preferred
- 4-5 years related experience or training
- certification in responsible alcohol service (TIPS or related)
- proficiency in Jonas Club Management Software
- skilled in Microsoft Office including Word Excel Outlook and PowerPoint
- strong leadership and communication skills
- ability to manage and motivate a team
Job Duties
- Ensures service execution exceeds member expectations at the bar
- greets members and guests and establishes professional rapport
- supervises all bar employees directly
- develops weekly schedules for bar staff
- consults with Catering and Banquet Managers on staffing for events
- holds meetings with bar staff to ensure smooth efficient service
- maintains neat professional appearance and enforces dress code
- responsible for initial and ongoing staff training
- develops training manuals and programs
- updates bar items on POS system
- participates in weekly food and beverage and catering meetings
- manages inventory of bar supplies
- develops and implements cocktail and wine lists
- ensures adherence to safety standards and health department regulations
- maintains cleanliness and organization of bar and storage areas
- creates SOPs for team
- maintains records of staff disciplinary issues
- performs annual staff reviews
- enforces laws and club policies regarding the sale and consumption of alcohol
- upholds club mission, policies, and culture
- completes tasks assigned by Assistant General Manager
- effectively communicates with club members and employees
