Located at 1439 Chestnut St, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, this particular opportunity is part of the dynamic W Hotels portfolio within Marriott International. The hotel operates in the upscale segment, promoting a lifestyle and service philosophy that emphasizes passion, curiosity, and a high-energy guest experience. Marriott International champions equal opportunity employment and embraces a culture that values diverse backgrounds, talents, and experiences, fostering an inclusive workplace for all its associates.
The role available is a full-time Management position within the Food and Beverage & Culinary category, focused specifically on managing the bar/lounge operations. The salary range offered is $65,000 to $83,000 annually, complemented by eligibility for bonuses. This role is not remote and involves hands-on leadership in an active, guest-centric environment. The Bar/Lounge Manager is responsible for supervising daily shift operations and staff, ensuring the implementation of beverage policies, compliance with liquor laws, and the maintenance of high standards in food handling and customer service.
Key responsibilities include overseeing the property’s liquor inventories and controls, menu planning assistance, and promoting the lounge to maximize guest satisfaction and operational efficiency. The manager will assist servers during peak hours, ensuring smooth service flow and guest engagement. Additionally, they are accountable for managing budgets, participating in financial oversight including payroll and expense management, and enforcing legal obligations professionally. This position requires a proactive leader who can implement targeted training programs to enhance team performance and foster a positive work culture. The manager will support the broader food and beverage team by assisting in other outlets as needed, ensuring seamless operations across departments.
The ideal candidate profile includes a high school diploma or GED with at least 4 years of experience in food and beverage or culinary roles, or alternatively, a 2-year degree in Food Service Management, Hotel and Restaurant Management, Hospitality, Business Administration, or a related field combined with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience. This ensures the manager has a solid foundation in both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The role demands a comprehensive understanding of beverage control systems such as perpetual inventory and portion control, as well as operational budget management, cost controls, and sales analysis.
Exceptional leadership skills are imperative, as the manager will train staff on liquor control policies, supervise staffing levels, and communicate crucial information regarding events and service standards. Delivering exceptional customer service is a top priority, with responsibilities including direct guest interaction, managing feedback, resolving complaints, and encouraging continuous improvement among the team. The management style should empower employees and emphasize guest satisfaction across all aspects of the bar/lounge operation.
Human resource management activities are also integral to this role. The manager will support departmental orientation, new hire training, and employee development, including the implementation of corrective actions when necessary. As a representative of Marriott International and W Hotels, the manager embodies the brands' commitment to innovative hospitality, exceptional quality, and guest-centric service. Joining this team offers the opportunity to be part of a vibrant hospitality environment where creativity and excellence are encouraged and rewarded.
