This role is a full-time, non-management position based at JW Marriott located at 1743 W Nursery Rd, Linthicum, Maryland. The position offers an hourly wage ranging from $24.30 to $27.00. The role primarily focuses on supporting the food and beverage department in banquet operations, ensuring the highest standards of service, organization, and guest satisfaction. The individual will be responsible for supervising staff to work cohesively as a team, inspecting personal hygiene and attire of staff and addressing any deficiencies to maintain a professional appearance. They will serve as a primary point of contact with guests, employees, and other departments to meet guest needs and ensure smooth event execution.
The position requires managing the banquet room setup, which includes organizing the area, ensuring proper cleanliness, furniture arrangement, and equipment setup. Maintaining the arrangement of tables to meet group requirements and company standards is vital, as is addressing any concerns promptly. Accurate and timely documentation within departmental records is mandatory. The candidate will also assist management with key functions such as hiring, training, scheduling, evaluations, counseling, disciplinary actions, motivation, and ongoing employee development. Cultivating and maintaining positive work relationships and promoting a team-oriented atmosphere is essential to achieving shared organizational goals.
Safety and compliance are critical components of this role. The incumbent must adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, promptly report maintenance issues, hazards, accidents, or injuries, and complete all required safety certifications and training. The role demands physical capability to move, lift, transport, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than 50 pounds independently, and assist with objects weighing more than 75 pounds. The candidate will frequently engage in activities requiring standing, sitting, or walking for prolonged periods throughout their shift, as well as bending, reaching, twisting, and ascending/descending stairs or ramps in a safe manner.
Effective communication skills are required, including clear and professional speech with guests and colleagues, appropriate telephone etiquette, and active listening to respond appropriately to concerns. The candidate must maintain confidentiality of proprietary information and safeguard company property. Support for fellow team members by treating them with dignity and respect and contributing to a positive work environment is vital. Additional duties as assigned by supervisors will also be part of the responsibilities.
Educationally, the role requires a high school diploma or a General Educational Development (GED) certificate. Candidates should have at least one year of related work experience and one year of supervisory experience.
