Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Four years of experience in culinary, food and beverage or related area
  • OR associate degree in culinary arts, hotel and restaurant management or related major
  • Two years of professional experience in culinary or related field
  • Ability to manage kitchen operations and lead a team
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of food handling, safety and sanitation regulations
  • Capability to maintain purchasing and food storage standards
  • Experience with budget management and scheduling
  • Ability to train and develop employees
  • Willingness to handle customer service and guest relations
  • Commitment to comply with applicable laws and organizational policies
  • Availability to work full time at JW Marriott Tampa Water Street

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 4 years experience in culinary, food and beverage or related professional area
  • OR 2-year degree from accredited university in Culinary Arts, Hotel and Restaurant Management, or related major
  • 2 years experience in culinary, food and beverage or related professional area
  • Ability to lead and develop kitchen staff
  • Strong culinary and food preparation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
  • Competence in budgeting and labor management
  • Experience in handling guest relations and conflict resolution
  • Demonstrated ability to innovate and improve culinary processes
  • Familiarity with kitchen equipment operation and maintenance
  • Capacity to enforce compliance with laws, policies and procedures
  • Skills in coaching, mentoring and performance appraisal
  • Capability to manage multiple tasks effectively

Job Duties

  • Manage kitchen shift operations and ensure compliance with all food and beverage policies, standards and procedures
  • Estimate daily production needs and communicate with kitchen personnel
  • Assist Executive Chef with kitchen operations and food preparation
  • Prepare and cook a variety of foods regularly and for special functions
  • Develop new culinary applications, ideas, systems or products
  • Create decorative food displays and determine food presentation
  • Maintain purchasing, receiving and food storage standards
  • Ensure compliance with food handling and sanitation regulations
  • Perform duties of kitchen managers and employees as needed
  • Recognize superior quality products and presentations
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations
  • Follow proper food handling and temperature guidelines
  • Operate and maintain department equipment, reporting malfunctions
  • Check quality of raw and cooked food products
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of cooks and food preparation workers
  • Lead shifts by preparing food items and executing specifications
  • Utilize interpersonal and communication skills to lead and motivate staff
  • Build mutual trust, respect and cooperation among team members
  • Serve as a role model demonstrating appropriate behavior
  • Maintain employee productivity and clarify expectations
