The role of Banquet Server at Sonesta International Hotels is a vital position that directly contributes to the company’s high standards of guest service during banquet events. The Banquet Server is responsible for delivering food and beverage items efficiently and courteously in a timely manner, ensuring that every banquet guest has a superior dining experience. This role involves setup and breakdown duties, food service coordination, and close interaction with both guests and banquet leadership teams.
Banquet Servers are expected to maintain a pleasant personality and professional demeanor throughout functions, set up and replenish buffet displays, cook and serve food at action stations according to the hotel and banquet standards, and engage with guests to accommodate specific dietary needs and preferences. The role also includes performing various cleaning and organizational tasks post-event, attending shift meetings, and adhering to instructions provided by banquet managers and directors. Importantly, Banquet Servers must be knowledgeable about proper serving techniques, table settings for plated events, and coffee and tea brewing methods.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Prior experience in banquet or food service preferred
- Ability to maintain pleasant demeanor under pressure
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Availability to work flexible hours including early mornings, late nights, weekends, holidays and double/triple shifts
- Knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices
- Capability to stand for extended periods and carry equipment
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
Job Qualifications
- Track record of delivering exceptional guest or client experience
- Strong communication skills
- Appropriate professional appearance and demeanor
- Ability to understand basic room diagrams and seating charts
- Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions and correspondence
- Flexible availability for various shifts including early mornings, late nights, weekends and holidays
Job Duties
- Maintain pleasant personality and demeanor throughout the function
- Provide food service for banquet events in accordance with hotel and banquet standards
- Setup action stations, cook and serve patrons at action stations following head chef presentation
- Setup banquet buffet displays both hot and cold in allotted time
- Maintain food levels at buffet displays
- Engage guests to determine allergies, preferences and dietary needs and report to banquet leadership
- Properly brew coffee and tea using expected techniques
- Follow seating positions and serving techniques for plated events
- Complete daily side duties, post function cleanup, organization and deep cleaning
- Attend pre and post shift meetings with banquet leadership
- Report to banquet leadership for inspection before leaving
- Store banquet and hotel equipment in an orderly fashion as instructed
- Deliver passionate and engaging service to guests by using the GUEST model
- Build solid relationships with colleagues showing respect and teamwork
- Perform other duties as assigned and assist other hotel areas when needed
