We are actively seeking a talented Banquet Sous Chef to join our dynamic culinary team. This full-time position offers a competitive salary ranging between $75,000 and $85,000 per annum. The Banquet Sous Chef will play a critical role in overseeing all culinary aspects of banquet and catering functions in close collaboration with the Executive Chef. This position demands strong leadership skills, culinary expertise, and a passion for delivering exceptional banquet dining experiences.
The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and overseeing daily banquet culinary operations while providing clear direction to associates. Creating and implementing menu selections tailored to special banquet themes and events will be at the heart of this role. Ensuring consistency in food preparation according to hotel recipes and standards is essential to maintain our culinary excellence. The Sous Chef will also enforce compliance with safety and sanitation policies, contributing to a safe and hygienic kitchen environment.
This role requires a strategic mindset to contribute towards maximizing the overall departmental profit. Responsibilities include controlling and analyzing various operational aspects such as production quality, food presentation, guest satisfaction, merchandising and marketing efforts, payroll, food costs, sanitation, and cleanliness. The Sous Chef will closely monitor and develop team member performance through supervision, coaching, counseling, evaluations, training, scheduling, work assignments, and recognizing achievements.
Active participation in developing the kitchen’s business strategies is expected, along with supervising daily menu setups, anticipating business volume fluctuations, and adjusting work schedules accordingly. Time management and the ability to foster effective employee relations and interdepartmental collaboration are critical to success in this position. Additional responsibilities will be assigned as necessary, making this a versatile and pivotal leadership role within our culinary operations.
Competencies needed include independence, stress management, adaptability, creativity, analytical skills, oral communication, inspiring followership, energy, passion, and ambition. The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of culinary skills and operations, be computer literate, demonstrate strong interpersonal and problem-solving abilities, and show capability to work effectively as part of a team. Strong written and oral communication skills alongside an ability to train culinary staff are also essential.
Educational qualifications include a college degree or an equivalent certification from a recognized culinary institute, with at least 1-2 years of experience as a Sous Chef. Prior experience in the hospitality industry is required to excel in this demanding role. Physical working conditions will involve the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, frequently lift loads of up to 30 pounds, stand or sit for long durations, constant walking during shifts, and the ability to talk, hear and taste effectively.
