Job Description
The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a renowned non-profit, bipartisan public policy organization established in 1962. It has positioned itself as a leading authority in providing strategic insights and practical policy solutions to decision makers concerned with global security and prosperity. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., CSIS has expanded over the decades into one of the largest organizations dedicated to international security analysis and global affairs. Its highly skilled team of more than 200 employees, including over 120 analysts, works diligently to address the complex and evolving dynamics of global security. The organization influences a wide range of policies that impact international relations, economic development, technological advancement, and security strategies worldwide.
CSIS is currently seeking a dedicated and proactive Banquet Coordinator to join their team. This role is integral to the smooth and professional execution of conferences, dinners, and special events held at CSIS. The Banquet Coordinator is responsible for assisting with conference room reconfigurations and providing excellent food and drink service to ensure an outstanding experience for both guests and staff. The position demands a positive, friendly, and efficient demeanor, as it involves significant interaction with attendees and colleagues.
The Banquet Coordinator will work closely with the Director of Conferences and Event Planning and the Senior Banquet Supervisor to coordinate various event needs. Responsibilities include responding to inquiries about events, managing food orders from outside catering companies, maintaining kitchen supply inventories, and ensuring beverage service is consistently available throughout meetings. The role also involves setting up rooms for events, managing cleanup and breakdown after events, and securely storing conference equipment. This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with experience in hospitality who thrive in dynamic, team-oriented environments and enjoy working on afternoon and evening schedules with occasional morning shifts.
Physical requirements for this position entail performing a variety of tasks that involve manual dexterity, standing, walking, reaching, lifting, and moving furniture up to 75 pounds. The ability to adapt to a constantly changing environment and possess strong communication skills is essential. The work environment typically maintains a moderate noise level, and reasonable accommodations are made for individuals with disabilities. The Banquet Coordinator position at CSIS not only promises a challenging and rewarding work setting but also comes with the chance to be part of an organization that plays a crucial role in shaping influential global policies and security strategies.
