The Banquet Chef position at the Pennsylvania Convention Center is a pivotal culinary leadership role that demands creativity, expert knowledge, and strong management skills. The Banquet Chef will lead and train kitchen staff, oversee culinary operations for a wide range of events, and ensure consistent, high-quality menu offerings. Responsibilities include estimating food consumption, purchasing supplies, developing recipes, standardizing production procedures, and setting presentation standards to meet customer expectations. The chef must also maintain strict safety and sanitation protocols while ensuring all kitchen equipment is properly operated and maintained. Additionally, the chef will oversee special catering events and may provide culinary instruction or demonstrations to both staff and guests.

Job Requirements

  • 4-5 years of hands-on banquet experience
  • at least 2-3 years of post-high school education, preferably a culinary degree
  • flexible schedule with availability to work event-based hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • advanced knowledge of the principles and practices within the food profession
  • experiential knowledge of management of people and/or problems
  • verbal, reading, and written communication skills
  • strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate large teams in a fast-paced, dynamic environment preferred

Job Duties

  • Trains and leads kitchen personnel
  • supervises and coordinates all related culinary activities
  • estimates food consumption and requisitions or purchases food
  • selects and develops recipes and standardizes production recipes to ensure consistent quality
  • establishes presentation technique and quality standards, and plans and prices menus
  • ensures proper equipment operation and maintenance and ensures proper safety and sanitation in the kitchen
  • oversees special catering events and may also offer culinary instruction and/or demonstrate culinary techniques
