The Banquet Captain role at ASM Global is pivotal in ensuring the seamless delivery of banquet services during events. This position involves supervising and coordinating the activities of banquet servers to guarantee that food and beverages are served promptly and with the highest level of customer service. The Banquet Captain serves as the primary on-site contact for hosts, maintaining ongoing communication throughout the event to uphold guest satisfaction standards. Beyond overseeing the service staff, this role requires keen attention to detail, leadership skills, and the ability to anticipate and meet the needs of guests under varying event conditions. The Banquet Captain collaborates closely with the Food Services Manager and Chef on Duty to review banquet event orders, plan serving arrangements, and address any special requests, ensuring that every aspect of the banquet service aligns with established expectations.

Attendance and punctuality, in line with ASM Global's policies, are essential to fulfilling this role successfully. The Banquet Captain is responsible not only for directing the team during the event but also for preparing detailed reports, managing inventory status, and ensuring compliance with company policies and applicable laws, including responsible alcohol service. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • One year's experience as a banquet server or banquet captain
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet strict deadlines
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Ability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Must have professional attitude and appearance
  • Some travel may be required
  • Must have a current Food Handler's Certificate and be TIPS trained

Job Duties

  • Communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing
  • Make quick and accurate decisions
  • Consult with Food Services Manager regarding serving arrangements and additional employees and equipment required
  • Supervise banquet servers
  • Meet with Chef on Duty at start of each shift to review banquet event orders, menu, timing, special requests, and Chef's expectations
  • Meet with client prior to event to review menu and itinerary
  • Anticipate customers' needs, respond promptly, and acknowledge all customers regardless of event conditions
  • Motivate servers, resolve conflicts, and exceed guest expectations
  • Conduct staff lineups at shift start, inspect uniforms, review menus and itineraries, and provide short training topics
  • Prepare Captain's Reports detailing function and host comments
  • Promote and maintain the highest level of customer service to all guests
  • Determine when guests should not be served additional alcoholic beverages per company policies
  • Inspect function space for cleanliness, organization, and ambiance before events
  • Observe food being served to ensure correct garnish and arrangement
  • Follow organizational policies and applicable laws
  • Manage consumption sheets
  • Maintain clean and orderly front and back areas
  • Ensure completion of closing duties before staff sign out
  • Provide performance feedback and disciplinary reporting to management
  • Foster cooperative working climate to maximize productivity and morale
  • Complete all paperwork and closing duties per departmental standards
  • Review assignment status and follow-up actions with Banquet Manager or oncoming supervisor
  • Notify Manager regarding low supplies
  • Perform other duties as assigned
