Job Description
Patrick Properties, established in 1997, has built a distinguished reputation for restoring and preserving historic properties within Charleston, including landmark venues such as Parcel 32, The American Theater, The William Aiken House, and Lowndes Grove. The company not only specializes in the meticulous care and renovation of these treasured historic locations but also crafts an atmosphere of warm, inviting hospitality. This commitment ensures that guests at each event feel genuinely welcomed, well cared for, and enticed to return for future experiences. With decades of expertise rooted in elegance, sophistication, and impeccable service, Patrick Properties has become synonymous with upscale event venues that blend history with modern comforts and exceptional food and beverage offerings.
The Banquet Captain role is a crucial supervisory and operational position within Patrick Properties Hospitality Group (PPHG), focusing on managing and overseeing serving staff and bartenders during events held across the company’s prestigious historic venues. Serving as a point of contact during event setup and operations, the Banquet Captain works closely with Event Managers to ensure the seamless execution of all event-related activities. This role demands leadership capabilities and an ability to proactively manage event setup with little to no supervision. The candidate must demonstrate excellent organizational skills, solid communication abilities, and a customer-centric mindset to uphold PPHG’s high standards for service quality.
This position requires a flexible schedule, including availability nights, weekends, weekdays, and occasional holidays, to meet the varied timing of hosted events. Shifts are coordinated by a Staffing Manager with opportunities to pick up additional shifts beyond the scheduled workload. The Banquet Captain acts as a leader to ensure that every team member is aligned with company policies and service protocols while fostering cohesive teamwork and efficient event operation. Responsibilities include managing staff sign-in/out, enforcing uniform and appearance standards, assisting teams during plate-up, monitoring stations, and ensuring timely, professional service throughout events.
A successful candidate will be well-versed in food and beverage service, possess ServSafe Food Handler and Alcohol certifications, and have prior food and beverage experience—preferably with leadership experience. Familiarity with PPHG menus and serving standards is essential, alongside a commitment to critical thinking, problem-solving, and exceptional attention to detail. Physical demands include lifting up to 30 pounds and standing for extended periods, reflecting the active, hands-on nature of the role. Ideal candidates are mature professionals who thrive in fast-paced environments, can multi-task effectively, and maintain a positive, team-oriented attitude.
