The Banquet Captain role at the Virginia Beach Convention Center represents a full-time opportunity with a competitive pay range of $20 to $22 per hour, offering varying shifts with an emphasis on open availability to meet the dynamic scheduling needs of event services. This critical role places the Banquet Captain as the primary on-floor leader during banquet and catered events, where direct supervision and coordination of banquet servers and porters are essential. The Captain is entrusted with guiding service execution in line with Banquet Event Orders (BEOs), ensuring that timelines and service standards are meticulously met to provide an outstanding guest experience.
In addition to leadership responsibilities, the Banquet Captain actively participates in event setup, service delivery, and breakdown, maintaining a hands-on approach that underscores the importance of teamwork and communication among all event staff. The position works closely with banquet supervisors, culinary teams, and other service personnel, underscoring a collaborative environment that values operational efficiency and quality control. Adherence to strict food safety, sanitation, Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) standards, and alcohol service policies is a fundamental aspect of the role. Job Requirements
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience preferred
- Minimum of 1-3 years of banquet, catering, or food and beverage service experience
- Prior lead or captain experience in banquet or event environment preferred
- Must meet minimum age requirements to serve alcohol based on local and state regulations
- Must maintain valid TIPS, TEAM, or equivalent alcohol-service certification
- Compliance with all state-specific alcohol training requirements
- Food handler certification may also be required based on state or local regulations
Job Qualifications
