The role of Banquet Captain at Heritage Hotels & Resorts is a vital leadership position essential to delivering flawless banquet and event operations. As the on-floor coordinator, the Banquet Captain ensures seamless service flow and exceptional guest experiences by leading and managing banquet staff during events. This position requires excellent communication skills, strong organizational ability, and a commitment to upholding the highest service standards. The Banquet Captain is responsible for coordinating staffing, conducting pre-shift briefings with the team, monitoring event execution in real time, and handling guest concerns with professionalism and care. When the Banquet Manager is absent, the Banquet Captain serves as the primary point of contact for clients, event planners, and internal departments to maintain smooth operation and client satisfaction. This role also involves maintaining compliance with food safety, sanitation, and alcohol service regulations, as well as ensuring operational efficiency and cost control by fostering strong supplier relationships. The Banquet Captain supports the training and coaching of team members with a focus on service excellence, assists with event setup and breakdown, and ensures accurate event documentation and reporting. This role demands attention to detail and professionalism, including adherence to grooming and uniform standards while protecting company assets and maintaining confidentiality. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1+ years of banquet or food and beverage experience
  • Luxury branded hospitality experience preferred
  • Valid New Mexico Food Handler Certification
  • Valid New Mexico Alcohol Server Certification
  • Strong leadership and team coordination abilities
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multitask effectively in fast-paced, high-volume environments
  • Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment
  • High level of organization and attention to detail
  • Working knowledge of restaurant and banquet point-of-sale systems
  • Must be available to work late evenings, weekends, and holiday shifts to support event and banquet operations

Job Duties

  • Maintain a high level of positive and professional communication with employees, coworkers, management, and guests
  • Lead and coordinate banquet service staff to ensure proper staffing levels and seamless flow of service throughout events
  • Conduct pre-shift briefings and provide clear direction to staff regarding service expectations, timelines, and guest needs
  • Maintain a strong focus on guest experience and base all decisions on exceeding guest expectations, particularly when resolving concerns or complaints
  • Monitor event execution in real time, ensuring all service standards, timelines, and presentation requirements are consistently met
  • In the absence of the Banquet Manager, serve as the primary on-site point of contact for clients, event planners, and internal departments during assigned functions
  • Maintain strong working relationships with suppliers and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce operational costs
  • Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, alcohol service, and company safety standards
  • Assist with setup, service, and breakdown of banquet events as needed
  • Support training and coaching of banquet team members to promote service excellence
  • Accurately complete event documentation, checklists, and post-event reporting
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and professional appearance in compliance with uniform and grooming standards
  • Protect company assets and maintain confidentiality of proprietary, client, and guest information
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
