The Banquet Captain position at Sodexo's Savannah International Trade and Convention Center is a full-time role offering a pay rate of $22.00 per hour. This role is critical in orchestrating banquet and catering events, ensuring a seamless guest experience through direct leadership on the floor. Banquet Captains are responsible for coordinating the service execution during events by directing teams of Banquet Servers and Banquet Porters, guaranteeing service delivery is aligned with Banquet Event Orders (BEOs), timelines, and company standards. This position demands strong communication skills, detailed attention, and a keen focus on guest satisfaction throughout event setup, service, and breakdown.

As a Banquet Captain, you will collaborate closely with the Banquet Supervisor, culinary team, and service staff to ensure every event runs smoothly and professionally, adapting to varying event sizes and service styles. The role involves training and onboarding banquet service staff, maintaining compliance with food safety, sanitation, and alcohol service policies, and the physical ability to manage lifting and moving items up to 50 pounds occasionally. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience preferred
  • Minimum of 1 to 3 years of banquet, catering, or food and beverage service experience
  • Prior lead or captain experience in a banquet or event environment preferred
  • Must meet minimum age requirements to serve alcohol based on local and state regulations
  • Must maintain a valid TIPS, TEAM, or equivalent alcohol-service certification and comply with all state-specific alcohol training requirements
  • Food handler certification may be required based on state or local regulations
  • Ability to frequently lift and move up to 35 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds
  • Show up for scheduled shifts on time with satisfactory regularity

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Provide direct on-floor leadership during banquet and catered events
  • Coordinate service execution and direct banquet servers and porters
  • Ensure service delivery according to banquet event orders, timelines, and service standards
  • Participate in event setup, service, and breakdown
  • Maintain focus on guest satisfaction, communication, and attention to detail
  • Assist with training and onboarding of banquet service staff
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, HACCP, and alcohol service policies
