The role of Banquet Captain within the Food & Beverage team is vital to the successful execution of banquet events at the Convention Center. This experienced and highly motivated professional will lead and supervise banquet servers, ensuring all service activities are carried out with the utmost professionalism and attention to detail. The Banquet Captain is responsible for coordinating communication between the kitchen staff, management, and clients to achieve flawless event delivery. Serving as the primary on-site contact for clients during events, the Banquet Captain must display strong leadership skills and exceptional guest service to anticipate and meet guest needs efficiently. Responsibilities include managing pre-shift briefings, monitoring alcohol service compliance, inspecting event spaces for cleanliness and ambiance, overseeing food presentation, and supporting both front- and back-of-house operations. By maintaining orderliness and performance standards, the Banquet Captain plays a crucial role in upholding the Convention Center's reputation for excellence. This position also involves supervisory duties such as training staff, assigning tasks, evaluating performance, and resolving employee concerns, making it a dynamic leadership role within a fast-paced hospitality environment. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum one year experience as banquet server or banquet captain
  • Preferred Food Handler’s Certificate
  • Preferred Alcohol Awareness Certificate
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to make quick and accurate decisions
  • Ability to meet multiple deadlines
  • Ability to work independently
  • Flexible availability including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours
  • Professional appearance and demeanor
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 20 lbs for up to 10 minutes
  • Frequent standing, walking, reaching, and stooping
  • Willingness to work indoors or outdoors depending on event needs
  • Basic computer proficiency

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • At least one year of experience as a banquet server or banquet captain
  • Food Handler’s and Alcohol Awareness Certificates preferred
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to make quick and accurate decisions
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet strict deadlines
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Flexible availability including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours
  • Professional appearance and attitude

Job Duties

  • Supervise banquet servers and coordinate service activities
  • Consult with the Banquet Manager on staffing needs, service arrangements, and equipment requirements
  • Meet with the Chef on Duty before each shift to review banquet event orders, menu items, and timing expectations
  • Greet clients prior to event start to review event details and itineraries
  • Anticipate guest needs and respond promptly to ensure exceptional service
  • Lead pre-shift lineups, review menus, check uniform standards, and conduct brief training topics
  • Prepare detailed Captain’s Reports after each event
  • Monitor alcoholic beverage service in compliance with company policies
  • Inspect event spaces prior to guest arrival to ensure cleanliness and ambiance
  • Ensure accurate food presentation and garnishing
  • Maintain orderliness in both front- and back-of-house areas
  • Oversee staff closing duties and provide performance feedback to management
  • Complete required paperwork and closing responsibilities
