Job Description
ASM is a leading global provider specializing in the management of public assembly facilities, including convention centers, arenas, theaters, and stadiums. With a strong reputation for excellence, ASM delivers premier event experiences by combining world-class operational expertise with innovative services. At its Richmond location, which includes the Dominion Energy Center, Altria Theater, and Bon Secours Training Camp Facility, ASM is committed to providing superb event environments that satisfy clients and guests alike. This role is a part-time opportunity designed to support the Food and Beverage Department by ensuring smooth and efficient banquet operations that meet the high standards of the organization.
The Banquet Captain serves as a key supervisory figure within the banquet team, reporting directly to the Banquet Manager. This position is classified as Non-Exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), providing part-time employment with flexible scheduling, including the potential for overtime, weekends, and holiday shifts. The Banquet Captain is responsible for overseeing banquet functions from pre-event setup through post-event cleanup, ensuring that all aspects of service and presentation meet the exact specifications outlined in the Banquet Event Orders (BEOs). Attention to detail, strong leadership, and excellent communication skills are essential for excelling in this role.
The daily responsibilities of the Banquet Captain begin with confirming proper event setup in accordance with the master BEO and managing last-minute changes by collaborating with event managers, chefs, and sales directors. Training and menu briefings for banquet staff are conducted before events to guarantee seamless service delivery. The Banquet Captain supervises equipment handling for both setup and teardown phases and ensures that all areas are secured and maintained efficiently. Post-event duties include drafting detailed Captain’s reports, coordinating room resets for upcoming events, and overseeing cleaning and maintenance to maintain safety and equipment integrity.
Moreover, this position supports the Banquet Manager in administrative tasks such as inventory management, billing accuracy, and staff scheduling. The Banquet Captain plays an integral role in staff supervision by assisting in enforcing company policies, maintaining dress and grooming standards, and promoting a positive and healthy work environment. Monitoring and implementing sanitation, safety, and OSHA standards are critical to the role, as is fostering employee development through training and cross-training programs.
Ideal candidates will have at least two years of banquet leadership experience, with a strong focus on service management, banquet operations, and the ability to motivate a team. Physical demands include standing and walking for extended periods and the capability to lift up to 30 pounds or more as required. Bartending skills are also necessary. ASM Global promotes diversity and equal opportunity in the workplace, actively encouraging women, minorities, individuals with disabilities, and protected veterans to apply. The employer is a VEVRAA Federal Contractor, reflecting its commitment to inclusive employment practices. This position is excellent for individuals seeking a dynamic, flexible, and rewarding role in the hospitality and event management industry.
