Job Description
Patrick Properties is a distinguished company specializing in the restoration and preservation of historic properties in Charleston. Established in 1997, Patrick Properties has successfully revitalized landmark locations such as Parcel 32, The American Theater, The William Aiken House, and Lowndes Grove. Beyond architectural preservation, the company has cultivated a tradition of warm and inviting hospitality that creates memorable guest experiences. Recognized for maintaining a high standard of service and attention to detail, Patrick Properties operates upscale event venues with a focus on exceptional food and beverage offerings. The venues serve as elegant backdrops for a variety of events, making each occasion distinctive and memorable.
The Banquet Captain role at Patrick Properties Hospitality Group (PPHG) holds great responsibility and requires a blend of leadership, operational expertise, and guest service. This supervisory position supports Event Managers in coordinating and leading serving staff and bartenders during events held at the company's historic venues. The successful candidate will act as the primary contact person during event setups and the course of the event, ensuring seamless execution from start to finish. Essential qualities include the ability to lead a team effectively, work independently with minimal supervision, provide clear communication, and collaborate with diverse teams. The Banquet Captain is also expected to maintain professional standards consistent with the company’s brand image.
This role demands flexibility, with availability required for nights, weekends, weekdays, and occasional holidays. Scheduling is managed monthly by the Staffing Manager, with options available to take on additional shifts beyond the assigned schedule. The Banquet Captain will be involved in multiple facets of event management, including overseeing staff attendance, uniform compliance, setup and breakdown of event spaces, and maintaining inventory of service items such as aprons and bowties. They ensure that all standard operating procedures are followed and that the venue is left in optimal condition post-event.
A critical element of the position includes developing and enforcing training programs for new hires, as well as retraining staff who may need additional guidance. The Banquet Captain supervises the front-of-house staff, addresses incidents during events, and guarantees that food and beverage service meets the high standards of Patrick Properties. They are also responsible for communicating any concerns or needs related to staffing, venue condition, or client requirements to the management team.
Additional duties involve acting as the opening manager by greeting clients and planners, confirming the delivery and accuracy of rentals, and ensuring bar setups are complete including specialty items. At the event conclusion, the Banquet Captain oversees venue breakdown, proper cleaning and storage of equipment, secures the facility, monitors the removal of rented items, and submits event reports to management.
To succeed in this role, candidates must be certified in ServSafe Food Handler and ServSafe Alcohol, have experience in food and beverage service preferably with leadership background, and possess in-depth knowledge of Patrick Properties’ beverage and culinary menus. The role requires exceptional organizational skills, the ability to think clearly under pressure, and the capacity to motivate a team while fostering a cooperative environment. Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 30 pounds and stand for extended periods. Professional demeanor, punctuality, and adaptability are essential to thrive in this dynamic, fast-paced hospitality environment.
