The Banquet Captain at Great Wolf Resorts holds a crucial role in ensuring the overall satisfaction of event and meeting guests. This position involves overseeing a team responsible for banquet setup and service, ensuring that every event runs smoothly and meets the company’s high standards. The Banquet Captain acts as a leader, supervising servers and coordinating service efforts to deliver timely and outstanding food and beverage service. Key responsibilities include leading setup activities such as arranging tables and chairs, managing buffet and bar stations, preparing condiments, and anticipating beverage needs. The Banquet Captain also assists the Banquet Manager with administrative tasks like scheduling, reviewing time records, managing overtime, handling performance issues, administering discipline, conducting investigations, and facilitating staff training and development.

This role requires the ability to read and interpret Banquet Event Orders (BEOs), lead departmental meetings, and serve as the main point of contact for specific events or functions. The Banquet Captain must establish the order of service and maintain event timing to ensure efficient and seamless delivery of service. Assigning service stations to banquet servers and balancing workloads across teams are critical for maintaining quality standards. Additionally, the role involves supervising cleanup duties after events, ensuring all areas and equipment are properly cleaned and stored. Candidates for this role should have prior serving experience, leadership skills, and the ability to maintain a professional and enthusiastic demeanor that inspires confidence among team members and guests. Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 30 lbs, bend, stretch, twist, and stand for long periods.

Job Duties

  • Lead, supervise and participate in banquet set-up activities including moving and setting tables and chairs, buffet set-up, bar set-up, preparation of condiments, labeling of stations, anticipating beverage needs
  • Assist Banquet Manager in administrative and personnel matters including scheduling, time clock reviews, overtime, performance evaluations, discipline, investigations, training and development
  • Read and interpret Banquet Event Orders (BEOs) and follow instructions from Banquet Manager
  • Facilitate and lead departmental meetings such as pre-meal and post-meal briefings
  • Serve as the point of contact for assigned events and ensure a deep understanding of each function
  • Establish the order of service and maintain event timing to ensure proper and timely service
  • Assign service stations to banquet servers and balance workloads
  • Ensure all assigned side-work and pre-work are completed before leaving
  • Supervise and inspect cleanup after all functions including floors, dishes, equipment and supplies
