Job Description

Saybrook Point Resort & Marina is a premier waterfront resort located in Old Saybrook, Connecticut, renowned for its luxurious accommodations, exquisite dining, and exceptional event hosting facilities. As an upscale hospitality establishment, the resort offers a scenic and serene environment attracting both leisure travelers and corporate clients. Guests enjoy a variety of amenities including a full-service marina, elegant banquet spaces, and fine dining restaurants, all designed to provide a distinguished and memorable experience. The resort prides itself on maintaining high standards of service, guided by AAA Four Diamond Standards that ensure quality, attention to detail, and guest satisfaction.

The Banquet Bartender role at Saybrook Point Resort & Marina is an essential position within the resort's food and beverage department. This nonexempt, hourly role offers a salary aligned with prevailing minimum wage plus a percentage of the service charge gratuity pool, acknowledging the importance of excellent customer service and bartending skills in driving guest satisfaction. Reporting to the Banquet Manager, the banquet bartender plays a critical part in the successful execution of social and corporate events hosted at the resort. The primary responsibility of this position is to serve alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages in a manner consistent with responsible service practices and legal regulations.

The banquet bartender is tasked with setting up the bar and related accessories before events, serving a variety of drinks including liquor, beer, soda, juice, and mixed cocktails, and breaking down and securely storing supplies once events conclude. This role demands strict adherence to hospitality standards such as the AAA Four Diamond Standards to create an exceptional guest experience. A friendly and enthusiastic demeanor is vital for greeting guests and enabling a positive atmosphere. The bartender must also maintain accurate financial records including cash bar logs and register balances, ensuring accountability and proper cash handling throughout the event.

Beyond serving beverages, the banquet bartender is responsible for maintaining inventory control and ensuring glassware and bar fruit preparation meet quality expectations. They are trained to use measured pours to comply with liquor serving laws and to monitor patrons' alcohol consumption with the goal of promoting responsible drinking practices. Collaboration with other bartenders and staff is essential when managing guests who may be over-served, supporting a safe and secure environment.

Working at Saybrook Point Resort & Marina often involves varying conditions including indoor and outdoor event settings which may expose staff to weather elements and occasional loud noise levels typical of vibrant social functions. The resort promotes an inclusive workplace and offers reasonable accommodations to support associates with disabilities in performing essential duties. Physical demands require the ability to stand, walk, lift up to 50 pounds, and perform tasks that may involve bending, climbing stairs, or handling objects frequently. Clear communication skills in English and excellent interpersonal abilities are mandatory to fulfill the role with effectiveness and professionalism.

This position requires a minimum of a high school diploma or GED, at least one year of bartending experience, and the legal age of 18 years or older. Preferred qualifications include professional server or bartender certifications and completion of the T.I.P.S. training program within six months of employment, ensuring compliance with industry best practices and safety standards. Maintaining current licenses and certifications and being knowledgeable about the resort's services and local attractions enable the bartender to serve as a helpful resource for guests beyond beverage service.

Overall, the Banquet Bartender at Saybrook Point Resort & Marina is a rewarding opportunity for individuals passionate about hospitality and delivering top-tier service in an elegant resort setting.
