Job Description
The Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront is a distinguished hotel located in the heart of Portland, Oregon, known for its commitment to exceptional guest experiences and a welcoming atmosphere. As a flagship property within the Marriott International family, this hotel blends prime waterfront location with luxury accommodations, fine dining, and a robust event hosting capability. Marriott International is a global leader in the hospitality industry, renowned for its dedication to service quality and innovative approaches to hotel management. The company values diversity and inclusivity in its workforce, striving to create an environment where every employee feels valued and has the opportunity to thrive.
This Full-Time non-management position is based at the Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront and is focused on supporting the Food and Beverage & Culinary operations. The role involves critical behind-the-scenes responsibilities that help maintain the exceptional standards of cleanliness, organization, and efficiency that Marriott is known for. The candidate must demonstrate flexibility in scheduling as the work will revolve around event schedules, making it suitable for individuals who are adaptable and can handle fluctuating work hours.
As a team member, you will be completing final breakdown duties after functions, including thoroughly cleaning rooms used for events, returning equipment to its proper place, and ensuring that all reusable goods are properly stored. Closing duties include tasks such as locking doors, breaking down supplies, and securing the area. Setting up and maintaining stocked work areas throughout shifts is essential, as is continuous monitoring and maintaining pristine cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of assigned stations and service areas.
Your role will also involve handling linens, ensuring dirty ones are transported correctly, separating napkins from tablecloths, and restocking linen shelves with clean items. Practicing 'clean-as-you-go' protocols during the workday keeps the environment safe and orderly. Support across departments will be expected to ensure guests receive uninterrupted, high-quality service.
Safety is a top priority in this role, requiring adherence to all company safety and security policies. You will be responsible for promptly reporting any accidents, injuries, or unsafe conditions and completing necessary safety training and certifications. Physical tasks will include standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods, moving and lifting items (up to 50 pounds independently, more with assistance), and navigating various surfaces such as stairs and ramps.
Marriott values professional appearance and demeanor, expecting employees to maintain clean uniforms and present themselves professionally. The role requires clear communication skills, team support to accomplish shared goals, and a commitment to quality standards. Employees must handle confidential information with care and safeguard company assets at all times.
Preferred qualifications include a high school diploma or GED equivalent; however, no previous experience or supervisory background is required, making this an excellent entry point for individuals looking to start or develop their careers in hospitality.
Joining the Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront, and Marriott International broadly, offers a rich cultural environment where diversity, talent, and unique experiences are celebrated. The company is dedicated to equal opportunity employment, ensuring a welcoming atmosphere free from discrimination. By working here, you become part of a prestigious brand recognized worldwide for hospitality excellence. Marriott Hotels continually innovate while preserving the comfort and familiarity guests expect, and as a team member, you contribute directly to this legacy of "Wonderful Hospitality. Always." Marriott invests in its associates through training, development, and recognition programs, all within an inclusive, global community dedicated to supporting each person's growth and well-being. JW Marriott, part of Marriott's luxury portfolio, exemplifies these values further by fostering a work experience that balances community, passion, and personal development in a luxury setting. This position is your gateway to becoming the best version of yourself while building a rewarding career in hospitality.
