Job Description
Haymarket Commissary, located on Main Street in Louisville, KY, is a premier culinary establishment renowned for its commitment to high-quality, farm-driven ingredients and artisan techniques. As a cornerstone of Louisville's vibrant food scene, Haymarket Commissary prides itself on blending local and organic agricultural products with masterful craftsmanship to create exceptional bread and pastry items. This establishment positions itself not just as a bakery, but as a culinary experience where every product tells a story of heritage grains, sustainable sourcing, and culinary excellence.
The role of Bakeshop Team Member at Haymarket Commissary is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt position with typical working hours from 5:30 AM to 1:30 PM, requiring open availability to accommodate weekly scheduling variations. This role is integral to the daily operations of the bakery, as team members contribute to the creation of artisan breads and delicate pastries that uphold the brand’s exceptional standards.
As a Bakeshop Team Member, you will be deeply engaged in hands-on bakery production, using highly technical processes that demand precision, detail orientation, and a passion for quality. The job involves the practical application of baking techniques including mixing, shaping, proofing, and baking breads, as well as crafting painstakingly delicate pastries. You will be working closely with specialized bakery equipment, such as large industrial ovens, proofers, mixers, and dough sheeters, ensuring that the bakery functions smoothly and efficiently. Precision in following complex, structured recipes is vital, emphasizing accurate weighing of materials and careful management of portions to minimize waste and maximize product quality.
The culture at Haymarket Commissary values teamwork, mutual accountability, and shared responsibility. As a bakeshop team member, you will collaborate with your colleagues in a supportive environment to ensure each guest experience is excellent, reflecting the establishment’s dedication to quality and craftsmanship. This position also involves contributing to the research and development of seasonal menu items, incorporating fresh fruits and specialty grains sourced from partner farms, keeping the bakery’s offerings innovative and reflective of seasonal changes.
Quality assurance and cleanliness are paramount; you will be expected to monitor product freshness, maintain health and safety compliance, and uphold stringent sanitation standards. These efforts help sustain the trademark quality that defines the Haymarket Commissary brand.
Overall, this position is ideal for a detail-oriented, reliable bakery professional with 1 to 2 plus years of experience in artisan bread or pastry production or the equivalent in professional culinary education. The role demands physical stamina and agility, including standing for extended periods and frequent bending and reaching, to keep pace with the demands of a quality-driven, fast-moving bakery environment. This opportunity offers a chance to grow and refine your craft in an esteemed culinary team situated on a bustling Main Street location, surrounded by a community of passionate food lovers and artisanal producers.
