The Grocery Clerk (Bakery/Deli) is responsible for preparing bakery and deli items per customer requests, maintaining freshness and quality, and educating customers about new products and specials. Job Duties
- Prepare bakery and deli items per customer requests using proper bakery equipment
- Offer product samples to help customers discover new items or products
- Inform customers of bakery and deli specials
- Provide customers with fresh products and correct portion sizes to prevent shrink
- Recommend deli or bakery items to customers
- Use bakery equipment according to company guidelines
- Prepare foods according to food temperature logs and cooking instructions
- Measure, prepare and mix ingredients according to recipe using kitchen utensils and equipment
- Package, label and inventory ingredients in merchandise
- Check product quality to ensure freshness and review sell by dates
- Use kitchen equipment such as stove, fryer, steamer, and slicers properly
- Label, stock and inventory department merchandise
- Report product ordering and shipping discrepancies
- Understand store layout to locate products when requested
- Stay current with present, future, seasonal and special ads
- Maintain knowledge of products sold in the department and respond to customer questions
- Maintain awareness of inventory and stocking conditions
- Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers and maintain temperature logs
- Promote trust and respect among associates
- Create welcoming environment by answering product-related questions
- Adhere to all food safety regulations
- Comply with safety procedures and report unsafe conditions
- Inspect equipment for maintenance needs and report
- Notify management of customer or employee accidents
- Work cooperatively in high-paced and stressful environment
- Manage conflict reasonably and nonconfrontationally
- Act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information
- Follow directions and seek assistance when necessary
- Provide support to minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults
