The role we are seeking to fill is a Grocery Clerk focused on the Bakery and Deli sections of the store. This position is central to creating an exceptional customer experience by providing excellent service, maintaining a safe and clean environment, and supporting the department manager in achieving sales and profit goals. As a Grocery Clerk in the Bakery and Deli areas, you will be responsible for preparing bakery and deli items to customer specifications using proper equipment, offering samples to encourage new product discovery, and informing customers about specials and fresh products. Maintaining product quality and freshness is paramount, as well as accurately preparing, packaging, labeling, and inventorying items to reduce waste and shrink.
Beyond product preparation, this role requires familiarity with all bakery equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, slicers, ovens, and kitchen utensils, ensuring all food is prepared according to established cooking instructions and temperature regulations. An essential aspect of this position is promoting the Customer 1st strategy by fostering a welcoming atmosphere where customers feel important and appreciated. This includes answering questions about products, making recommendations based on customer needs, and staying up to date on department offerings, seasonal items, and store promotions.
In addition to customer interaction, the Grocery Clerk will be responsible for inventory management, including monitoring stock conditions, reporting discrepancies, and maintaining accurate temperature logs in refrigeration units. Adherence to all food safety regulations and company safety procedures is critical in ensuring a secure environment for both customers and employees. You will play a role in preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and notifying management of necessary repairs to maintain departmental efficiency.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- previous experience in grocery or food service preferred
- ability to handle bakery and deli equipment
- strong interpersonal and communication skills

- capacity to follow detailed instructions and recipes
- willingness to work flexible hours including weekends
- ability to lift moderate weights as required
