We are seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Grocery Clerk (Bakery/Deli) to join our team. This essential role centers around helping customers discover and enjoy our bakery and deli offerings while ensuring the highest quality and safe food handling practices. The Grocery Clerk will be responsible for preparing items to customer specifications using appropriate bakery and deli equipment, maintaining product freshness, and assisting with inventory control and stocking. This position plays a vital role in promoting sales through friendly and knowledgeable customer interactions and by actively supporting department managers in meeting sales and profit goals. The role demands adherence to all food safety regulations as well as company policies and procedures to foster a safe, clean, and efficient working environment.

The role requires familiarity with various kitchen utensils and bakery equipment such as ovens, slicers, refrigerators, fryers, and steamers. Grocery Clerks will regularly use product knowledge to assist customers with questions, make appropriate product recommendations, and offer samples to introduce new items. Additional duties include labeling, packaging, inventory counting, managing temperature logs, and reporting any product or equipment discrepancies to the management team.

Job Requirements

Job Duties

  • Prepare items per customer requests using proper bakery equipment
  • offer product samples to help customers discover new items
  • inform customers of bakery and deli specials
  • provide customers with fresh products with correct portion size
  • recommend deli or bakery items to customers
  • use all equipment in bakery according to company guidelines
  • prepare foods according to temperature logs and follow cooking instructions
  • measure, prepare and mix ingredients according to recipe
  • adequately prepare, package, label and inventory ingredients
  • check product quality for freshness and review sell by dates
  • properly use kitchen equipment such as stove, scale, fryer, steamer, robo coupe
  • label, stock and inventory department merchandise
  • report product ordering or shipping discrepancies to the department manager
  • understand store layout to locate products for customers
  • stay current with present, future, seasonal and special ads
  • gain and maintain knowledge of products and respond to questions
  • maintain awareness of inventory and note discrepancies
  • ensure proper temperatures in cases and maintain logs
  • promote trust and respect among associates
  • create a welcoming environment that answers customer questions
  • adhere to all food safety regulations
  • reinforce safety programs by identifying unsafe conditions
  • practice preventive maintenance by inspecting and notifying management of repairs needed
