We are currently seeking a dedicated and customer-oriented Grocery Clerk specializing in the Bakery and Deli departments. The Grocery Clerk will support department managers to achieve sales and profit targets while maintaining compliance with all established food safety guidelines. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing bakery and deli items according to customer requests, using the appropriate equipment, and offering samples to introduce customers to new products. This role involves a comprehensive understanding of baking and deli food preparations, proper use of kitchen appliances such as ovens, refrigerators, slicers, and fryers, and maintaining an organized workspace with accurate inventory and labeling. The Grocery Clerk must stay informed regarding product specials, seasonal promotions, product freshness, and store layout to assist customers effectively and provide recommendations based on customer needs.

In addition to preparing and presenting products, the Grocery Clerk will ensure proper handling and storage of perishable items by adhering to established temperature logs and food safety procedures. The role requires vigilance in inspecting product quality, managing shrinkage by providing correct portion sizes, tracking product orders and discrepancies, and maintaining communication with management about any issues or maintenance needs.

This position is integral to creating a safe and clean shopping environment. The Grocery Clerk will actively participate in promoting safety programs, identifying hazardous conditions, and reporting them promptly to store management. They will demonstrate professionalism and teamwork by building trust and respect among associates and embodying the company's core values in every interaction with customers and colleagues.

Job Duties

  • Prepare bakery and deli items per customer requests using proper equipment
  • offer product samples to customers to help them discover new items

  • use all bakery equipment according to company guidelines
  • prepare foods following temperature logs and cooking instructions
  • measure, prepare, and mix ingredients using kitchen utensils
  • package, label, and inventory ingredients and merchandise
  • check product quality and review sell by dates
  • properly use kitchen equipment including stoves, fryers, steamers, slicers, and scales
  • label, stock, and inventory department merchandise
  • report product ordering and shipping discrepancies
  • locate products within the store for customers
  • stay current with seasonal and promotional ads
  • maintain knowledge of products sold in the department
  • monitor inventory and note discrepancies
  • ensure proper case and cooler temperatures are maintained
  • promote trust and respect among associates
  • create a welcoming environment for customers and answer product-related questions
  • adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines
