The role of a Bakery Clerk at Kroger is pivotal in delivering an outstanding customer experience, specifically within the bakery department. In this role, you will prepare bakery items according to customer preferences using the proper equipment and techniques. Part of your duties will include adhering to food safety regulations, maintaining proper product temperatures, and ensuring the freshness of all baked goods by frequently checking product quality and expiration dates. Equipment handling within the department—such as refrigerators, ovens, scales, and mixers—will be essential to your daily tasks.

Additionally, as a bakery team member, you will take inventory, label products accurately, package items properly, and report any discrepancies or safety issues to management. Your role includes practicing preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and notifying supervisors about any repair needs. Job Duties

  • Prepare items per customer requests using proper bakery equipment
  • offer product samples to help customers discover new items or products
  • inform customers of bakery specials
  • provide customers with fresh products in correct portion sizes to prevent shrink
  • recommend bakery items to customers
  • use all bakery equipment according to company guidelines
  • prepare foods according to food temperature logs and follow cooking/baking instructions
  • measure, prepare and mix ingredients according to recipe, using various kitchen utensils and equipment
  • adequately prepare, package, label and inventory ingredients and merchandise
  • check product quality to ensure freshness and review sell-by dates
  • properly use kitchen equipment such as stoves, scales, fryers, and steamers
  • label, stock and inventory department merchandise
  • report product ordering/shipping discrepancies to department manager
  • understand the store's layout to help locate products for customers
  • stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads
  • gain and maintain knowledge of products sold
  • maintain awareness of inventory and stocking conditions, noting discrepancies
  • ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers and maintain temperature logs
  • promote trust and respect among associates
  • create an environment that makes customers feel welcome, important, and appreciated
  • adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines
  • reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identifying unsafe conditions
